Everytime I see people arguing about the Veto of SB1062

I just enter in with:

"So this is America. We mainly determine political choices by a popular vote system. SO, imagine if we can vote on your disagreement of the Veto on SB1062. There is still a chance you just COULD(maybe, idk actually) win that popular vote to bring back SB1062 BUT Jan Brewer would still veto your decision."

So a bill under consideration in Arizona would allow a business owner to refuse service to gays and others if the owner believes that doing so violates the practice and observance of his or her religion. So, the question that I would ask (besides the obvious one of constitutionality), is how do you determine if a customer is gay? Perhaps we should require them to sew rainbow badges on their coats. Or how about African-Americans or Jews or Mormons or Catholics?

So yesterday a friend of mine brought up the service refusal to gays bill here in Arizona (SB1062)

So I told him that it had gotten vetoed and so we discussed it a bit. Then his girlfriend chimed in seeming disappointed, and she was explaining how it was a good law and she felt it should've been passed. And things got really awkward. Everyone at my table got really quiet and wide-eyed and just looked at each other. I felt the tension and could cut it with a knife. I expected a debate to start, and I was right. I ended up stepping back because I knew she was extremely religious and had those feelings about it. I didn't want to get into it, but everyone else jumped into it. I know everyone has the right to their opinions and religious beliefs everything, but you can't use that as an excuse to discriminate, right? She thinks it's a law that would allow business-owners to exercise their religious rights. But it just seems wrong. I'm not being crazy, right?
