Boomer is so insecure its sad man.
But this one's more about Bubbles than Boomer.
Bubbles is so attracted to Boomer. Deeply. Genuinely. But her attraction is complicated and in some ways, a mirror of his attraction to her.
What draws Bubbles to Boomer:
His emotional openness.
Boomer doesn’t hide his feelings. He kind of actually wears them. Not all the time. Obviously his humor is a defense mechanism but Boomer has so many vulnerable moments in his character and it is unintentional and it pisses Brick off. Boomer joining the damn band is emotionally vulnerable in itself, we all know it's so he could be liked. And joining the musical? Making friends. Pursuiting Bubbles despite his ego being bruised multiple times? He sung to her for an open mic! The list is endless
In a world where Bubbles often feels like she has to perform, smile wide, be sweet, be the sunshine, Boomer is the rare person who lets his emotions be messy. That makes her feel safer being real. (Just look at the way she leads the relationship with Boomer vs Will. That's a whole other commentary)
She feels understood. Seen without being studied.
His loyalty
Boomer latches onto people he loves. He doesn’t flinch when they’re difficult, when they’re hurt, when they’re angry. (Ex. Not Haley sry bbygal His brothers. Bricks anger at the apartment after beach. Butch after big fight with Buttercup.)
Bubbles, who sometimes doubts if she’s “too much” or not enough, feels like she can fall apart with him and still be loved. (Think back to Boomer sleeping on the couch after vortex. He worries for both of his brothers out of love and loyalty despite how fucked up that entire situation was. He could have slept in his room, he purposely waits on the couch like a puppy. Think back to Bubbles needing Will's approval after the first fallout with Boomer. Shes approaches him like a guilty puppy.)
He makes her feel adored.
Boomer is unsubtle in his affection. When he’s with Bubbles, she becomes the center of his world.
For someone use to attention but not always intimacy...
that hits deEp.
He makes her feel precious. And chosen. Over and over and over again...
!!But here’s the problem!!:
She’s also afraid of him, y’all. Yes. Emotionally.
Because Boomer is too much sometimes...
Too honest.
Too dependent.
Too full of feelings she doesn’t know how to hold all the time.
So we might just start to see her... pull away. Test him. Withhold affection. Try to keep control.
And that’s when the cycle begins.
Boomer needs her more...
She gives less.
They ache.
They hurt.
They kiss.
They'll try again.
So what does Boomer do for her?
Guy's... this is gonna sound crazy but... yes.
He lets her be human (more than human I'llstop), not just “Bubbles.”
He doesn’t just want the perfect image.
He wants her, messy, complicated, insecure, jealous, tender.
And even if she can’t always handle the intensity,
there’s a part of her that’s lowkey terrified no one else will ever love her that fully again.
