Ignore how my first sbk fanart is majorscythe (I promise to draw more sbk after this)
Before the next episode of SBK comes out, I want to talk about what I think about Doak Avid.
I think he's spent his whole life trying to impress his dad, and thus, get the love and affection from him that he wants. He wants the familial love that he never got. So he will do anything to try.
Avid is an actor, who has erased his personality in favor of being what he thinks his father will be impressed by. For years, his only goal was to impress his dad. He latched onto this idea of getting his dad to love him and has no other goals, besides perhaps making sure his friends and dog are safe.
As the years go by and he doesn't get this love, he starts to make little comments about how "oh, my dad never liked my ideas, he thinks they're worthless"--all true, harmful things, but he says them so casually and carelessly that no one, not even really himself, realizes how bad it is for a father to say that, how much it hurts Avid.
I think Marm realized a long time ago there was no point in trying to get Avid's dad to be proud of him, but Avid doesn't listen to her.
Now, I think he's slowly realizing he will never really make his dad love him, what with building the greenhouse and clearly feeling actually bitter about his father not allowing him to do his own projects. But what does he do now? His whole purpose is based on being useful to his dad. His whole personality is about pleasing his dad. His goals in life are all about getting his dad to love him.
Instead of trying to figure who he, himself, is as a person, he attaches himself to Marmalade instead, which I don't think she realizes yet. Now all he wants to do is help her, because he's realizing she's really been better to him than most other people. Marm is his new person to impress and love and hope for love from. He will make himself into Marm's assistant, and that will be his new personality. Because he doesn't think he can have one of his own. He doesn't think he can survive without having someone to follow.
And in case you're wondering, this whole thing is based heavily on how I think Apollo's character is in Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan. They're similar people, okay??
Thank you for coming to my ramble.
Hey Qinny do you think you could bless us with some Majorscythe fanart
Absolutely!
Boom sbk Majorscythe, don’t ask questions please

Realizing the parallels between SBK!Pyro shutting down Avid's greenhouse project and Avid messing with Marm's machine, and both of the victims saying "That was MY project!"
Theory: Avid's dad is legally named Avid Doakie II, but hates it because his least favorite people share his name: his own father and his child. So he's called Pyro instead (definitely not because I want an easy, familiar name to call him)
Just now realizing that another difference between Marm and Avid's flashbacks is that in Avid's he closed the door when they were just talking about Marm's ideas, while in Marm's, he closed the door while they were talking about his dad, specifically saying something like "he's got eyes and ears everywhere."
Take that as you will, I'm still deciding how to interpret it. Goddd the nuances in this scene AUGH
