so this guy www.tumblr.com/peggguy just tried to scam me. He commissioned me, then sent me a fake email "from Paypal". I wish I could say that I didn't paint anything before I realized the scam, but that would be a lie. I should have probably know it when he asked me to add cake, balloons and confetti to a perfectly stylish portrait...

Hi everyone I wanted to talk about something that happened so I "received" my first commission about a month or two ago by someone who i thought was genuine they had posts and had likes and seemingly real people they followed (other artists in other fandoms) and they commented on one of my works saying they loved my art and wanted if i would do a commission for them to dm them. I did just that and they explained that they wanted me to do a drawing of their son's cat and I was like "sure whatever" even though I know that's a unusual request because my work typically consists of fanart of my special interests but I did it anyway they tell me they can ONLY pay through pay pal so i allowed them to do so and when "paying" I was told that they wanted 5 BRAND NEW COMMISSIONS out of NOWHERE and tells me they'll pay 150$ in total for all 5 (my price for once piece is 30-50 dollars) and of course this being my first commission didn't think too much about it because that's a shit ton of money for me and I was sent emails from "PayPal" telling me that 150$ was too big of a amount to receive at once and I would need to upgrade to a business account to accept it all to do so I thought "okay that's fine I can do that" but to upgrade I would need to refund 50$ back that I did not own turns out after a call with a few people at PayPal I found out the emails were complete bullshit and they were sent by the commissioner and just wanted me to give them 50 fucking dollars I blocked them PLEASE OTHER ARTISTS LOOK OUT FOR THINGS LIKE THIS WHEN YOU RECEIVE COMMISSIONS!!!

1: if the "customer" is extremely insistent on one specific form of payment only!!
2: if you receive any emails from the payment service get in contact with someone who works there to see if the email is official!! BLOCK AND REPORT IF ITS NOT!!
3: if they the email you received says you must refund money back to a customer ITS A SCAM!!! BLOCK AND REPORT
4: if they tell you to refund a different way and tell you to buy a card with the refunded money DO NOT DO IT!!! BLOCK THEM AND REPORT
5: if they are getting impatient for the refund AGAIN by that point block them entirely and report!!
