There is a funny translation error in the german Version of Arkham asylum. Scarecrow calls Harley dear in english, which would be Liebes in german. Though in the german dub he calls her Liebling (Darling), which is a nickname you usually only use for your SO. When i shared that in a discord server, this meme came up and i simply had to do it. Bold Jonathan, very bold!

I'm not big on ScaryQuinn as a ship (or high school AUs in general), but I am fond of the idea of Masters of Fear era Jon and Harley meeting as teenagers.
I like to think she notices him reading or getting picked on and just starts following him around out of curiosity. Meanwhile Jon is confused and mildly annoyed at why this sophomore girl keeps staring at him. He tries confronting her about it a few times with no success, so he just gives up and lets her hang around after a while. He is surprised that she actually seems interested in him. She asks questions about what he's reading, and she calls out the kids who make fun of him.
It's weird. At first glance he figured she was just some wannabe cheerleader—turns out she's been kicked off nearly every team in school for one reason or another. Usually it was for fighting, but what's she supposed to do when the cheerleaders start acting condescending toward her? Turns out they have a fair amount in common—they're both social outcasts from poor families who are smarter than anyone gives them credit for. Harley had a budding interest in psychology before she meets Jon, but once she has someone to talk about it with, it becomes more of a genuine passion.
They bond over psychology before anything else. Regular cram sessions turn into post-cram decompressing with snacks and bad movies, which eventually turn into actual dates. The birth of the Scarecrow persona is delayed a couple of years, mostly thanks to Harley and her creative methods for dealing with Jon's bullies. She technically saves Sherry Squires and Bo Griggs from their canon fates by convincing Jon to go a different route on prom night—instead of attacking their car by himself, Jon is surprised with containers of blood from the local butcher shop rigged above the gymnasium stage. He gets the honor of pulling the rope during prom court announcements, and to this day, he considers it one of the best moments of his life.
College is easier. They go slightly different routes, but end up in roughly the same place. They move to Gotham, staying together while Jon teaches and Harley begins her career as a psychiatrist. Jon still gets fired, which sets him on the path to becoming Scarecrow. He gets discovered and sent to Arkham, which is how Harley finds out. Once the initial anger subsides, she resolves to break him out. She becomes the Joker's underling to get her foot in the door, but they never end up any more entangled than that. She still becomes Harley Quinn, using her boss's assault on Arkham as a cover to break Jon and his cellmates out.
Yeah, I don't have much planned on beyond that. They continue their supervillain shtick in Blüdhaven after busting out of Arkham. Nygma, who apparently got ordained as a minister for an unrelated scheme, is tapped to conduct an impromptu wedding while they're on the lam. Jon takes Harley's last name to make laying low a bit easier, and also because they're saps.
