Characters: Salem, Summer Rose

The Huntress’s attack had been sudden and without warning. Only a Semblance could’ve explained how she, Salem, could be reading ancient tomes in the Land of Darkness in one moment and in the next find a Huntress’s wristblade straight through her very forehead.

The flash of silver eyes was all she registered before she felt her skull disintegrate under a torrent of white aura.

Instinct born from centuries of spellcasting allowed her to force out a lance of pure light that sent her white-cloaked assailant impaled to a wall. That would be the last thing her living mind would register as her body finally succumbed and scattered underneath the power of the Silver Eyes.

All that was left was the dark. 

Peace and quiet. No more Gods, no more Ozma, no more plans of domination and vengeance. Just a quiet reprieve from centuries of anger and rage. A rest for someone’s who’s lived far too long and experienced too much...

The unholy pact the Gods made with her brought her back screaming.

Summer watched with both horror and fascination as the scattered ash slowly spun around a single point, a vague figure slowly coming into form.

In that moment, she understood. Ozpin’s reluctance to look her in the eye when he assigned her the mission to kill the Mother of all Evil. The quiet call of “wait” before he shook his head, said “never mind”, and let her go. She thought it strange, but now she understood.

He somehow knew all along.

Ozpin somehow knew that this - the storm of ash now fully settling into Salem’s form - would happen. And now Salem was okay while she herself was slumped over on the ground, dying - because using the Silver Eyes while turning the Lord of All Grimm to dust had taken every drop of her Aura. She didn’t even have enough left to mount a defense against the spear of magic that ripped a hole through her chest.

When that last bit of Aura from her body left her, she’ll die. Maybe she’ll even die before that. 

An inky darkness settled over Salem’s pale form like a cloak, appearing no worse for the wear. The woman’s dark eyes met her silver ones. 

She couldn’t help but laugh at this mission that was doomed to fail from the start. 

“This was what Ozpin was hiding all along, wasn’t it?”

Summer Rose, one of the Huntress’s from Team STRQ. A Semblance that revolved around Stealth and channeling her Aura into a single disintegrating blow. Those who were killed by Summer Rose didn’t leave remains, just scattered white petals of aura. Combined with her team’s unique supporting skills, she was absolutely lethal to both Grimm and humans alike - the silent killer of the team.

If she hadn’t been immortal in the first place, Summer would’ve killed her the moment she brained her. She should’ve been angry about that.    

She should be happy that the constant thorn to her plans was dying in front of her eyes.

So why wasn’t she happy?

Maybe it was because of what the girl said. She wasn’t the first one who was betrayed by Ozma - now Ozpin, and seeing a girl with the eyes of her daughter’s suffer the same way; all she could feel was pity.

OKAY SO THE BASIC IDEAS I HAVE ARE LIKE???? Fang, Nudge, and Gazzy are very much close to their canon designs, very little change.

Max and Ari are living out in the woods so they have a very rough look to them- Max probably has some burn scars on her hands from trying to figure out cooking in the beginning (something ari takes over more of as he gets older). Ari’s hair is longer and Max cuts hers short w a knife bc she just cant be bothered to deal with it. I think they either dumpster dive or steal clothes bc max is wary of getting caught, so probably a weird mishmosh fashion-wise

Iggy and Angel meanwhile are living in an actual house and have money and normal-ish lives so they have nice clothes!! Very cleaned up- iggy has a few scars from the School but otherwise is pretty normal. Definitely is comfortable using a cane to help with his disability, so probably carries that around. Angel just loves wearing frilly cute stuff like usual and their dad 100% spoils her so!!!!

The interesting thing abt when they all reunite in this au (idk how or why yet) is that bc of the different situations they ended up in, everyone has very different skillsets. As opposed to canon where they were all on mostly equal footing, besides powers and iggy and gazzys bombs

Max and Ari lived in the woods, so they have amazing survivalist skills. Foraging, tracking, etc.

Fang, Nudge, and Gazzy were with Jeb so they all learned to fight, but they’re also adept at hunting down information and rumors.

Iggy and Angel got a relatively normal parent, and end up with the best social skills, practical life knowledge, and also money.

YES ABSOLUTELY

Okay so he doesn’t have a name yet but the guy who finds them basically is coming off a very recent divorce from his ex-husband and is staying in this vacation cabin up in the Adirondack mountains. And hes sort of lost in life so when he finds these two kids who have obviously been abused and are running he just instantly takes them in.

Angel basically gets to grow up with a stable father figure (cough fuck jeb cough) and Iggy takes very easily to being a Big Brother. They definitely spend the first year or so laying low, in case the School is searching for them, and figure out Angel is telepathic in that time? And like Dad is 100% just like “I’m in way over my head but im just gonna deal w things as they happen” and they work out a p good system.

They start to attend a normal school when the time comes for angel to go into kindergarten, but i think its be a private school like in the second book? The bulky blazers in the uniform help hide the wings. Iggy learns to use a cane in unfamiliar environments and actively encourages angel using her powers, as opposed to the way max is sort of vaguely scared of it in the books? I think it leads to Angel being a lot more mentally stablr and comfortable with her abilities in a non-horror-movie-kid way

Thinking abt Scattered au again… the way max doesnt feel pressure to take care of everyone bc she hasnt been a leader for years and how Fang instead takes on that role…. The way Iggy and Angel are so much more settled as people bc theyve had a relatively normal life since they escaped…. Angel having a hold on her powers while understanding boundaries… gazzy and nudge being a bit resentful of max bc of how jeb prioritized finding her above taking care of them….. ari is there………

ALSO Scatter au is literally all Ari’s doing. The reason the flock got separated is because Max went back for Ari while they were escaping the School. Fang tried going after her and handed Angel off to Iggy without thinking, so Iggy couldnt hold anyones hand.

Nudge and Gazzy got confused and followed Jeb, who went after Fang, and Iggy got confused and kept running without them.

Max grabbed Ari and got out, taking off while assuming the others had already ran, leaving Jeb to make sure Fang, Gazzy, and Nudge all managed to get out.
