“I have news for you.” Both cups of coffee are placed at the table they’re sharing, his still warm hand from the drink lightly squeezing her shoulder. “Good news, I’m hoping. At least I think they are.” He finally sits down across from her, playful smile on his lips as he retrieves something from his bag, careful to not be too obvious with his excitement. Finally an envelope dangles from two fingers, waving it teasingly in her face. What could he say, he was in a good mood. And for good reason, as well! 

“This here is for you. I haven’t opened it, yet, of course.” Ben quickly adds before she might think ill of him - he’d never invade her privacy in such a way! “But I am privy to what is in there. Professors talk and, well...” A shrug before he finally slides the thick envelope across the table and towards her, eagerly awaiting a reaction as dark eyes flit from the papers to her - his friend, he reminds himself - admiring what he’s sure is soon to be an even brighter smile.

Poe walked with Rey and couldn’t help the smile that grew on his face despite just how tired he was. Rey had one of the best hearts, he was sure of it, he was glad that she had found BB-8, brought Finn back to them...she was a part of their family as far as he was concerned (and it was probably one of the reasons why they bickered so much). But Rey trying to help him like this only proved his point.

“I would be a little worried about you if you weren’t judging my flying.” Poe laughed quietly, though he still feel like he was back to himself completely, he was kriffing glad that he had Rey there with him and followed her onto the Falcon without a second thought.

“I promise, no trees. I’ve been flying since I was six...though I think my mother still had the controls and I just didn’t realize.” Poe didn’t talk a lot about his mother anymore, it still hurt like hell, but the fact that he was able to smile about her now...it meant something.

      His hand is quick to withdraw when she tells him off for touching the dressing, his brows pinching together. She’s much more strict than he’d expected her to be. “Would YOU be happy sitting around if the roles were reversed?” He gives her a pointed look as she crouches in front of him, remaining perched on the edge of his seat for a moment. “I’m honestly fine. I’ll go mad if I’m forced to sit here and wait whilst you go off on missions.”

“I promise you!” She screamed over the engines of her ship, her hand outstretched toward him. “I promise you - just jump, Ben!” She pleaded as she held the controls of the ship steady with the force. She wasn’t about to leave him on a planet that was falling in on itself. His ship had been swallowed by the landslide and if he didn’t make his decision in the next few seconds? He would be swallowed too.

“Please, BEN!” She was frantic now, the fear of losing him very, very real. This wasn’t the end - she wouldn’t let it be. Her hand behind her was starting to tremble as she tried to control the ship from a distance, her grip on the controls straining, her feet slipping down the ramp as she begged him to join her.

The promise to consider his offer was one she wouldn’t take lightly. She knew parts of it had merit, but the way he wanted to go about it - it didn’t sit right with her. But if they could compromise? If she could offer a solution that suited them both? There was a real chance she’d take it. She’d take his offer and his hand.

She was so desperate and scared, worried about him. Him of all people. She cared for him despite everything he had done. Who else would do such a thing?

The planet was dying, exploding. His ship was done. Rey was his only way to survive and she was offering it to him. Probably making her make a promise at such a time was an act desperation on his part. Still, it was something that he wanted and it was something he heard her screaming to agree to.

Rey hanging on by a thread. He knew that. Only a few seconds to make the decision.

Without thinking he made it, racing to her ship, bolting up the ramp and nearly crashing into her, despite how fragile the current situation was. Even so he grabbed the hand that she held out for him. 

“We need to go.” He told her, stating the obvious.

“You know...when it became relevant.”

Honestly, Poe never had any intentions of telling Rey. BB-8 had asked him to keep it a secret and it would be a cold day in hell before Poe ruined this for his little friend. They had both been hoping it would be a pleasant surprise - and right now, Poe couldn’t quite tell if this was going well or not.

“Look, BB-8 asked me to keep it secret. None of us know when your birthday is, but you’ve been with us for a while now and he wanted to get you something nice. Think of it like a birthday present.”

𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐂𝐔𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃, a technique often used by Jedi in training that Kylo thought could help him connect to Rey via the force. It wasn’t for lack of trying, several 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒 passing before finally, finally, the force connected them. Eyes opened as he felt the sensation of a presence, the company of the Jedi before him. Swiftly, he stood again, stepping forward with lips parted to speak when a 𝐅𝐈𝐒𝐓 had connected to his mouth.

Taken off guard and completely by surprise by it, his head snapped back, stumbling a step before steadying himself. That wasn’t 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐓𝐄 the greeting he had been expecting, rather expecting harsh words, not a punch to the face. Copper could be tasted on his tongue, a sign of a split lip; that was just great. However, 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐄 the sudden attack, Kylo wasn’t angry at her. Honestly, he probably deserved it after the last time they laid eyes on one another.

He asked, 𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐌 lacing words as a gloved hand came up to wipe the blood from his lips. Some morbid part of him wandered if Rey had finally given up on him, like everyone else had-- he wouldn’t be surprised. He knew he made it 𝐃𝐈𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐓 for others to see beneath his mask and behind the walls he put up. And yet, some smaller part of him desperately hoped he hadn’t messed it up, that she could still 𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 him from himself, a small part buried beneath everything within.
