Koby x GN! Reader // Words : 700 // no beta reading
You had met Koby when Garp had took him, with Helmeppo, under his wings. Just like the two young men, you were a rookie soldier supervised by the Vice Admiral. Being trained together daily, you quickly get along. Koby had such a nice and sweet personality, it was hard to not appreciate him.
And for Koby, it was the same. He couldn’t simply not like you. Your shared vision of the world, of justice and will to protect the weakest pulled you together naturally. He even felt relieved when he learnt you already about Luffy being Garp’s grandson and Koby’s friend, and yet remained tolerant. He learnt only later that before his and Garp’s stories, you’d heard from Luffy by Smoker and Tashigi. And if a man like the White Hunter could allow a pirate to flee, Luffy must really be a good person.
With time passing by, you grew, just like Koby – though it didn’t seem he realised it – as well as your affection for one another.
“Have you seen that kick they gave? I don’t think I could have block it if I was facing them.”
Koby and Helmeppo were getting out of the shower after an intensive training session. You had stayed by Garp’s orders, who wanted to give you a few more fists of love.
“You could have. You’re the strongest out of us three.
- But still, they’re getting stronger so quickly lately. I think they might overtake me soon.
- Then train harder if you don’t want them to.
- I wouldn’t mind. I think they have all it takes to be a great officer.”
None of you had a grade at that time, despite Garp’s trust in you, he still believed you had to prove your worth.
“Do you hear yourself?”
Koby finished to put on his shirt over his head before looking questioningly at an already dressed Helmeppo.
“What do you mean?
- You keep on complimenting them. Everyday. All day long.
- I’m just been nice.
- You’re been nice with everyone, Koby. Admiring them daily isn’t being nice.
- Then what is it?
- Aren’t you in love?”
Helmeppo thought Koby was in love, consciously, just keeping it for himself. But the skeptical look on his friend’s face was telling him the opposite.
“You think I love them?!
- How could I know!?
- BUT YOU JUST SAID I LOVE THEM!
- I SAID I THOUGHT YOU LOVE THEM!”
The young men were confusedly shouting in the changing room, luckily not intelligibly enough to anyone who could overhear.
“Boys? Is everything alright?”
It was Garp. He came when he heard the ruckus. He informed them that you had just headed to the showers and that you would join them at the canteen soon. Garp left with the two boys on his steps.
“What was all that noise about?
- N-nothing, sir!
- Really? Not some love triangle thing, right?”
The Vice Admiral watched over his shoulder. Helmeppo shook his head and hands no. He clearly didn’t want to be part of this story. Koby, and the other hand, was overwhelmed by the question.
“No, sir! Absolutely no way!”
Garp hummed and looked ahead. The 3-way love affair may not be, but the young pink-haired soldier was head over heels in love with his third rookie. Garp wasn’t blind about it, just like Helmeppo.
“See, boy. You’re an opened book whenever it comes to your feelings. The person who can’t see you love them is an idiot.
- Then I must be one myself, sir.”
Garp’s loud laugh echoed in the whole courtyard, to make the walls tremble.
“That’s a sure thing, boy. Luckily for you, it seems they aren’t as blind as you are.”
Koby wasn’t sure what Garp was talking about. But the moment you joined them at the dining table, he felt something new yet familiar.
His skin became warmer, and his heartbeat was stronger against his ribcage, almost painfully. It was a sensation he was already experiencing with you on a daily basis, he just never paid it attention. It left him speechless.
“Koby, are you alright?”
He didn’t listen to Garp and Helmeppo’s low sniggering. The sensation of your hand on his forearm was burning his skin through the fabric of his uniform.”
