Margo Veil, Denison University 2016 - Charge Scenic Painter

I executed the mural work on the back wall with aerosol cans and an HVLP sprayer, as well as the floor treatment. I also got to contribute to the overall look of this show by suggesting aesthetic inspiration to the designer. For example, the two blue-and-pink faces on the back wall, stage right, were inspired by graffiti on the remains of the Berlin Wall. 

They’re hard to see, but I also made some sticker-art out of old postage labels for the piano on stage right, to add to the grimy atmosphere of the show.

I also spritzed a little bit of fluorescent surveyor’s paint (mysteriously found in the back of the flammables cabinet) over the tiger’s eyes to make them pop.

Margo Veil Tiger, 2016 - HVLP sprayer, spray paint, painter’s tape.

For this show, I was tasked with making a giant stencil of a tiger’s face... without the stencil. 3/4 of a roll of painter’s tape was my alternative solution.

Richard III, Denison University 2016 - Charge Scenic Painter

Responsible for fabrication of stonework (mixed sawdust, vermiculite, & joint compound on luan) and subsequent painting, painting of floorboards, painting of background scrims (with a HVLP sprayer), and execution of heraldic designs for various standards. At the bottom: the painter with the alternative standards used throughout the show. I freehanded that boar!

Best of Friends, Denison University 2016 - Charge Scenic Painter

The wood texture on the floor and the painting of the trim and walls were my responsibility. Also, 1 and 1/2 of the coffee tables have wood grain faux finish - guess which!

Little Shop of Horrors, Denison University 2015 - Charge Scenic Painter

Areas of responsibility included assisting a visiting artist with the construction, animation, and painting of the Audrey II puppets, painting of flats and platforms, wood grain faux finishes on trim and marble faux finishes on countertops, and gluing a lot of fake bricks (blue foam with faux-finish) to things.

Trojan Women, Denison University 2015 - Charge Scenic Painter

Areas of responsibility included planning, painting and texturing the floor. I also made the “body bags” (only visible in the corner of one picture), textured, stuffed fabric sacks representative of the ruin of Troy.
