@stu-dna January study challenge
19. show us your planning system!
For my planning/organizational system, I use Google calendar in conjunction with a paper planner. The Google calendar is my full, complete, entire-semester/year planner, since it’s so easy to change and repeat events. I have that completely filled out with every single class, rehearsal, concert, etc. that I know of for basically ever.
For my classes, I have them color coded (in rainbow order since I needed some sort of system) in the order that they occur. Their time blocks in my Google calendar match the notebook I use in that class and the homework folder for each specific class in my binder, so I can find things that much more easily. I have a specific color in my calendar for church things, both of my jobs, and personal things as well. Also, I go through my syllabi every semester and put every exam and due date for each class in this calendar.
The paper planner is a week-by-week thing. I used to use a bullet journal in the same manner, but ended up spending too much time making it pretty and organized, so I switched to a cute spiral-bound planner at the beginning of January. I guess it’s not 100% necessary, but the act of physically writing things down really helps me to remember them. I also keep my daily to-do lists in my paper planner, just because I don’t like the tasks function in Google calendar. I don’t use my color-coding system in my paper planner because my markers bleed through the pages, but it’s okay because especially this semester, it’s better to keep everything in pencil because it’s only the second week of classes and my schedule changes around so much.
Finally, every Sunday(ish) I take a piece of notebook paper, crease it in half the long way, and write down every event and due date I have that week, by day. This lives in the front of my binder, so I can just quickly glance and make sure I haven’t missed anything I’m supposed to turn in in class, or that I’m prepared for multiple rehearsals in one day. Again, not completely necessary, but just writing it down one more time helps me to remember it!
