Hi Fia! I was just brainstorming and I remembered one of your older posts for I think it was Guiding Winds 'verse, about Anakin going to a fancy party in Tatooinian robes and speaking to the droids the entire time. I can't find the post and, well...i kind of need it for Pressing Reasons (one of them being that I am a magpie and my creative energy comes from looking at other people's works)...would you happen to know which post that would be?

You know, I’m honestly not even sure if that was mine? I’m a bit of a magpie too, lol, and I can’t remember but I think that might have been @lectorel or @grand-duc‘s idea?

Hey Fia! Do you have any general headcanons on Tusken Raiders? Culture, origins, etc...What do you think they look like under those masks? (Apparently I'm the only one who wonders lol)

Woo, okay, I’ve been kicking this idea around for a while and I think I’m officially going to settle on it, so:

I think the Tuskens are a human people group, indigenous to Tatooine. When the Hutts and their slavers arrived and colonized Tatooine, the Tuskens were among the first slaves, and it’s still true that the majority of human slaves on Tatooine have Tusken ancestry.

(Yes, this includes the Skywalkers.)

Quite a lot of Tatooine slave culture is the result of syncretism between native Tusken cultures, Twi’lek culture (as the second largest ethnic group in the slave population), and elements of the Hutt culture of the masters.

Amatakka as a language is more closely related to Tusken languages than to Huttese, though it does have a lot of Huttese and Ryl influence.

Much of the slave religoin I’ve talked about is related to Tusken religion, as well. The Great Mother, who in Amatakka is called Ar-Amu, is related to the Tusken Er-Amma, Ekkreth to Tusken Ikkret, etc.

The Tuskens, however, consider Liyya (in Amatakka Leia) to be not their Elder Sister, but their Mother. The word “Tusken” is a corruption (by way of Huttese and Basic, so pretty mangled) of Tukrasken, which means “dragon-born.”

Since the colonization of Tatooine, most Tusken groups have moved into the deep desert, where living is much more difficult but where they are mostly left alone by the Hutts and their ilk. Each group has its own territory, usually centered around an oasis or underground body of water. Each year, in the week surrounding the three full moons (that is, Marokkepu for the slaves), the tribes gather in an assembly of nations.

The increasing spread of settlers and moisture farmers, often trying to get away from the Hutts and their stranglehold on the major cities, has led to a growing conflict between some Tusken tribes and the more outlying settlers. However, this tends to be a very regional issue, and in some areas the two groups actually get along well and have more or less banded together against the Hutts.

Many Tusken tribes have legends about the Stolen Children, those who were taken into slavery, and there is still a strong sense of kinship and desire for reunification.

@schillerama - Another option from my friend Libby. I think this one counts as jewelry/hairstyles, which is why I didn’t specifically talk about it, but yes, jewelry and ornamentation is perhaps one of the most widely used variety of familial differentiation in literature (and real life).
