THE time had finally arrived for their old swim club to be torn down. At least, that was what Makoto had announced on their way home from school this afternoon. The building was already under-going demolition after it had sat deserted for many years. Haruka had done everything in his power to avoid the structure once he quit swimming competitively, up until he was angled into returning along with the others. Of course, that was also the first time he had seen Rin following their race after he returned from Australia. The race in which he hurt the other boy, and led Haruka to quit competing. Now that Makoto knew the truth as well, he couldn't avoid his past any longer.
It was a chilly evening, as most nights were in April. If he was lucky, he would be able to use Iwatobi's outdoor pool by the end of the month. But only if the temperature improved. Though tonight, his mind wandered beyond swimming outdoors. The memory that haunted him the most projected itself in his mind on an endless loop. How eager Rin was to compete against him after returning from Australia, their race, and his much regretted victory. History could have repeated itself again at Samezuka, but Rin had improved greatly in his five years and Haru didn't ready himself for such a challenge. Rin surpassed him, and Haru was unusually relieved.
Gravel crunched nosily beneath his soles as the teen approached the eerie construction site. Unmanned excavators and bulldozers were scattered about the grounds, along with a large machine with a wrecking ball that cast a shadow over a third of the pavement. Haru had been so busy admiring the machines that he hardly noticed as a shadow passed by his peripheral vision. By the time he reacted the shadow was impending upon him, and less than a meter away. Hands at his side, cerulean optics dilated as the figure reached the end of it's obscured shadow, to reveal a fairly tall male with a hat. Déjà vu swept over him as Rin suddenly stopped in his tracks. Haru didn't dare say a word. He had seemed so displeased at their last match, that no words would have sufficed. So he brought a finger to his nose to hold off a sneeze, before he choked out a soft greeting.
"...--Rin?"
