Ā Ā Ā Ā Rin could feel the anger beginning to boil beneath Haruās flesh from where he stood in respect to the other. That sensation kindled Rin. Not only his satisfaction, but more so his ire. He had just barely given the other enough time to finish speaking before he grabbed his shirt and jolted the two of them a few steps backwards, slamming Haru into the deteriorating cement wall. Though the words clawed at his tongue hastily with wrathful vigor, he fell silent.
Ā Ā Ā Ā His fingers chiseled deep into the fabric of Haruās collar. Rinās emotions were spewing in every which possible direction and he couldnāt control it. Against his will, salty tears were beginning to form in the corners of his eyes, and that only made him angrier. His fists clenched tighter, shaking uneasily beneath the youngerās chin. āDonāt cry. Donāt fucking cry,ā his mind howled in repetition, in attempt to block the rest of his thoughts out. But despite the constant background noise of his bickering thoughtsā he couldnāt think. He couldnāt do anything other than what he was about to. His lips plummeted onto Haruās without hindrance. He kissed him violently, careful to block any and all escape routes. Rin pressed his chestĀ aggressively against Haruās, his hands snaking down to capture both of the raven-haired boyās fists at his side.Ā He had no idea what the hell he was doing, and he didnāt care. All he cared about was finding release, had it been in any shape or form.
Ā Ā Ā Ā His mind now echoed the same idol thought.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āThen where were you⦠when I needed you most?ā
Ā Ā Ā Seeing the other in this state was frightening, to say the least. Though he felt just as frustrated. Why couldn't they just leave the past behind them? Gears in his mind ceased their turning as his collar was snatched with such strength that he had no chance of escape as Rin drove him into a nearby wall. From the meek light that peered down on them, Haru could have sworn he noticed the slight glimmer of tears in the other's eyes. Lips parted as if to say something, only to droop into a frown as their eyes met. He couldn't show weakness now, not after this shark had smelled his blood in the water. Or at least that was what he intended to do before Rin did theĀ unbelievable. He kissed him. Haru was so aghast that his muscles seemed to fail him, and left him open and vulnerable for Rin to do whatever he pleased. It took the painful grip on his arms for his mind to register the event, and supply him with enoughĀ adrenaline to react. Rin was stronger than him, and his attempts to ease the grip on his wrists ended in a strike of panic. When Rin finally broke their kiss for air, he took theĀ opportunity to voice himselfĀ by theĀ reigns.Ā
"..What are you doing, Rin?! --Stop it!" The swirl of emotions that built their home in Haru's chest was suffocating on top of the pressure Rin applied to the boy to keep him against the wall. He had to wonder if the magenta haired teen was just as perplexed as he was and had simply acted on instinct, or had these feelings been long subdued? His unstable gaze set on the other in plead that his words had done the job, but he figured Rin wouldn't give up so easily in this state.
ā ā ļ½ļ½ ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ ļ½ļ½ļ½ ā¹ āŗ
Ā Ā Ā Ā The unexpected sneeze of his rival echoed through the desolate walls of the abandoned indoor pool, causing Rin to bite down instantaneously on his tongue. If was a bad habit that seemed to present itself in times of stress, or whenever he was on edge. As that familiar, faint metallic taste engulfed the redheadās mouth, a menacing sneerĀ gustedĀ through his jagged teeth.
Ā Ā Ā Ā However; the egotistical self-defense didnāt seem to uphold when Haru failed to speak. Why couldnāt he just take something other than the goddamnĀ water seriously for once? FiercelyĀ displeased,Ā Rinās jaw clenched in apprehension as the other seemed to withdraw further and further into himself. Something about that sole glance beyond his direction struck a chord in Rin, that his desperate attempts to conceal previously had disguised. āLook at me, dammit," he hissed, grinding his incisors against each other. Jolting forward, he catches Haruās thin wrist in his trap of shaking, frugal fingers, to hastily pull Haru closer, redirecting his line of vision upon his own crimson optics. There were so many thoughts building up on the tip of his tongue, yet straining to force their way out as an uninvited cloud of dryness parches every inch of his throat. Instead, a curtain of deep magenta strands deluge, creating a viel of shadow over the teenās erratic eyes. "Or are you just going to walk out, like you always do?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Leaving had crossed Haru's mind, of course. Though the two were not in such dire straights that he thought would have to. His guilt was like an anchor, holding him in place after it had had so many years to fester and eat away at his subconscious. A weight that he felt couldn't be lifted until he solved their dilemma. The raven haired teen had barely rose from his crouch before weak fingers snatched his wrist with a new found urgency, causing his breath to catch in his throat as his feet shuffled to bring him closer to his rival. Lips parted in shock, optics having a hard time focusing upon Rin's gaze and listening to his curt accusations at once. Walk out? When had he ever walked out on Rin? If memory served, he had always been the one who had tried to coax the other into staying. Rin had left for Australia, and he had walked away after their race all those years ago. Haru always had one foot planted, while Rin was a wandering soul. His words could never reach him as hard as he tried.
Ā Ā Ā Ā "...No. I've never walked out, Rin." Anger bubbled in his chest, and surfaced when he yanked his wrist out of the other's grasp. Thin brows furrowed in frustration, 'Don't make it sound like you haven't,' he thought. His gaze never faltered from Rin's crimson optics, hand balling into a fist at his side. "..Annoying. I wasn't going anywhere."

The memories of that day haunted Rin regularly. It wasnāt necessarily the knowing that Haru had beaten him that drove him to his lowest, it was the idea, the sole fact that he had lost. It was the first time Rin had ever felt the weaknessā the shame of a l o s e r. All he had strived to become had been crushed within a single lap. However he couldnāt bring himself to resent Haru because of it. After all, the only person he really had to blame was himself. Yet⦠he couldnāt find a way to face Haru again with a such a dismantled ego.
ā I came to see the swim club before itās completely torn down. ā
The redheadās fists clenched, his nails digging into his palms within the depths of his pockets. Frankly, Rin hadnāt been all too surprised upon his first encounter with his three childhood pals at the abandoned swim club a few weeks ago. He had supposed it was only a matter of time before he would have run into their old quartetā however, encountering a single one of them at a time, nonetheless, Haru⦠Rin hadnāt exactly expected.
Rinās molars ground together behind a clenched jaw. āGuess itās for the best,ā he spat. It was quite a challenge to block out the flashbacks of his past tainted childhood from reliving in his mind. However, as long as he was able to do that, he wouldnāt fall vulnerable. Rin exhaled a fierce breath through his nostrils as his eyes skimmed vacantly over the barren poolās floor as an unwelcome presence shifted beside him. But it wasnāt until the silence was broken, did Rinās eyes catapult up to meet Haruās.
ā ⦠I decided to quit competing the last time we swam here together. ā
Like the shot of a bullet, everything he had been desperately sheltering from his mind came flooding back.
A muffled, threatening growl escaped Rinās twitching mouth, his eyebrows creasing into a hard, unsteady line. He was silent for several seconds, but when he finally opened his mouth to speak, his tone projected as surprisingly calm and monotonous, the polar opposite image of his abysmal, darkenedā shaky eyes.
"Haruā¦"
Why had he.. why had he said that? He had always been good at managing his emotions, keeping them concealed under lock and key. Never showing anything shy from shock unless around his closest of friends. Ah. He and Rin had once been close. That could have been why he had spilled something so meaningless.
"Haruā¦"
Today Haru had a hard time imagining the enthusiastic young boy he used to be chummy with, or at least he had had a difficult time up until he used that characteristic pitch. He almost sounded like his old self, almost. Those hollow eyes that held his would have be nearly impossible for anyone else to read.
āā¦..ā He swallowed thickly, as he held his gaze for a mere second before he was no longer capable. Had Australia really been worth it if he had become this inhospitable? Sure, their conversations were mostly one sided as children, but at least he had still considered Rin a friend. Now.. now he didnāt know if they were anything more than rivals. Competitors that had had a past at one point or another, but neither of them wanted to divulge in it. He rose a finger to his nose a millisecond short, and a resounding sneeze echoed throughout the enclosed walls. Shit. It couldnāt have happened at a worse time. But at least Nagisa had been proven correct. Rin must have spoke about him earlier if it had brought on the sneeze. Though it wasnāt a comforting thought. He hesitated before he rose to his feet to take one last look in Rinās direction. Haru could sit there and wrack his brain all he wanted for something else to say, but he couldnāt bring himself to antagonize Rin any further.
Don't you have a pool at your school...? @freedevotee
A dead panned expression was fitted onto the swim captainās face as he watched the raven haired boy swim around in Samezuka Academyās pool, exclusively used for Samezuka Academyās swim team unless he, Seijuuro Mikoshiba,Ā the swim captain,Ā approved of a joint practice with four or more participantsĀ priorĀ to the event.
He didnāt see anyone else besides the Nanase boy.
He didnāt approve of a joint practice.
And last time he checked Haruka Nanase was a Iwatobi student.
Seijuuro crossed his arms and tapped his foot, looking more like a disapproving mother rather than a swim captain and called to the boy, āHaruka Nanase-kun will you please explain to meĀ whyĀ you are swimming here?ā The acoustics of the gym amplified his voice, making him sound louder than expected⦠but still the teen just kept swimming.
He sighed and ran a hand through his red mane. This might take a whileā¦
Ā Why couldn't their school have an indoor pool like Samezuka's? The water was at a perfect room temperature, and there was no chance of stray bugs or leaves littering the surface. With the sun's rays peeking through the windows and warming his skin as he floated on his back, it felt like paradise.
It would have been nice if he could stay like this for a bit longer, but of course he could never truly relax in a place like this. He didn't even go to this school and was imposing upon their facilities.
His ears were submerged in the clear liquid, and lids obscured his vision as he heard a voice reverberate through the water. Haru thought he would be less likely to run into Samezuka students given how early in the morning it was, but he was just proven wrong. Eyelids hesitantly fluttered open upon his being discovered, shifting his weight to tread water languidly. It was the swim team's captain. Seijuuro, was it? Cobalt optics stared back from just above the surface of the water, bored gaze shielding the sheer fact that he had no point in giving the other a response. Ā "....."

taemiko:
"About three years until I'm ordinary."
ā ā ļ½ļ½ ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½ ļ½ļ½ļ½ ā¹ āŗ
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā He remembered it like it was yesterday, his first day of swim practice. He was the new kid, and despite the hoard of anxiety closeted in his mind, the anticipation was numbed by one thing. The most important thing, the only thing he cared about. Strength, training, winningā being the best. When the other kids watched him, whispered about him to their friends, it only gave Rin all the more motivation to strive for superiority. Yet; he couldnāt help but sneak a few glances at one other particular trainee during practice, Haruka Nanase. It wasnāt like he was jealous, by any means. But he found the boyās natural techniques, the way he almost seemed to be a physical embodiment of the water itself, it chafed Rin beyond words. The kid didnāt have to try to be the best. And the part that really pissed him off was that he didnāt even want to be the best.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Rinās ego had been one of his most dominant driving forced behind his physical and emotion strength. Up until that day, anyways. The day that he realized thatā he wasnāt the best. Haru had something that he didnāt. No matter how many hour he spent practicing, no matter how strong he cameā the times, the techniques, the methods⦠they were all irrelevant. Nanase had beat him, and there was nothing he could have done about it.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The only source of light came from the surrounding dusty, cob-web infested windows through their shards of broken glass. Although, seeing as it was practically midnight already, the windows didnāt do much aside from the illumination of a few slivers of moonlight across the empty pool floor. Naturally, the sound of the occasional scuffle of a rat from the ceiling or a moth fluttering by didnāt mute out the approaching, (all too familiar), unwelcome presence. Rinās dark plum locks cascaded across crimson irises as an imminent glare shot over his shoulder, towards the half expected raven-haired teen.
āĀ ā¦āRin?Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Obviously, he hadnāt exactly scheduled such a reunionā if it could even be given such a title. Yet for some reason, Rin wasnāt particularly surprised to hear the ring of the boyās voice, accompanied by the shadowy figure and itās soft-aura. However, the redheadās tone stated otherwise.Ā "What the hell are you doing here, Haru?"Ā
Ā Ā "What the hell are you doing here, Haru?"
Ā Ā Ā There was the boy's acquitted tone that sent a chill down his spine once it reached frozen ears. Haru himself would have reacted similarly, he deducted. Minus the unpleasant vocalization of his name. The rival shifted uncomfortably on his feet as a finger rubbed at his red nose. Perhaps it wasn't his most intelligent decision of the evening toĀ gallivant outside in the nippy weather with a head cold. But he couldn't leave now that he had run into Rin, and with his recollection of the night five years ago a constant bother to his guiltyĀ conscious.
Ā Ā Ā "I came to see the swim club before it's completely torn down." He had planned to lay his regrets to rest here, with the rubble. But he knew the older male didn't want to hear his reflection, nor did Haru want to bring up something that was in the past. Ā It had hung heavy on his heart for years before he had forced himself to dismiss it, only to be be uprooted upon Rin's return. He hesitated upon moving closer to the other, and instead crouched near the edge of the empty pool a few feet away from where Rin stood. Tension hung between the two so thickly it could be cut with a knife. He needed to say something, anything to break the silence.Ā
Ā Ā "...I decided to quit competing the last time we swam here together." His placid voice echoed off the walls of the room much louder than he had anticipated, as he had spoke in barely a whisper. Ā Hands placed on his knees, orbs followed tiny rodents as they scampered in the pool bed. This should be fine, he thought. Speaking to the ground rather than to Rin. Ā Makoto was the only one who knew his true reason for quitting. But he didn't fully understand. Haru joined the swim club to do just that, swim. He didn't have the competitiveĀ spark that Rin possessed. That was why his reaction of losing to Haru was so distressing to the male. Haru didn't understand his need to win, he just wanted to race.
Natsu kept staring at the other with a look of impatience and curiosity, waiting for the other to possibly give him the food he wanted needed. Eventually a question arose for the pinket to answer, his heart pounding at the excitement that had now reached him. "Mackerel? Isnāt that a type of fish?! Ya got some in there?!ā
Ā Ā So loud..Ā His enthusiasm reminded him keenly of Nagisa. "..Yes." He slid the bag around from his back and rummaged inside for the small can that he kept with him in case of emergencies (i.e, theĀ neighborhoodĀ cats were hungry). Seconds later he held a can opener in one palm and a blue can of mackerel in the other. Ā He gradually extended his arms towards the other, and thought Ā he may act like a hungry animal whilst taking them from him. "Take it."

The dragon slayer disregarded the otherās rather plain looks, only focusing on the rumbling of his stomach that was close to the roar he had used against Cobra. Natsu was about to let another loose if he didnāt get any grub sooner or later. "Hey, you! Gotta any food I can eat?ā
Ā Ā What was with this guy? He appeared as if he was straight out of a cartoon, and was demanding food from a complete stranger. A brow was perked as the other's stomach sounded a rather awful growl, and left Haru to ponder if he was homeless. Well, he may have had something in his school bag. "...Do you like mackerel?"Ā
