THIS SHIRT WAS AT SYDNOVA?! HOW DID I NOT SEE IT?!
I bought it at the very end of the convention when they were closing stores so don’t worry I hadn’t seen it all day. the only reason I got it was because the lady running the stall noticed my cosplay (I went as Jemma) and she shouted that she had something for me. although unfortunately not in my size :/ but I got one anyway :)
I must know where schled got her awesome “Science Biatch” AOS shirt!
Wow, you guys definitely want to talk a lot about POVs! I've never been totally satisfied with the rotating narrators/POV situation in Heroes of Olympus, particularly because I think it creates some inconsistencies in characterization, especially when you have a cast as big as the one in HoO.
Anyway, let's chat about this.
More asks regarding BoO's ending and a few other things!
anon said: I can't stop crying over the ending and I don't know if its because the series has ended or how the series ended...what are your thoughts on the ending?
I was not that impressed with the ending, particularly Leo's last chapter. I think a lot of it tended to be info dumpy with the other members of the prophecy and I think Leo going back to Calypso would've had a lot more meaning to it if their relationship had gotten more development. (And I say this as someone who loved the two of them in House of Hades.) Also, thought it was kind of weird that Leo was casually like, "Welp, some day I'll let my grieving friends know I'm still alive! Let's go explore!" I think he's going to get a punch in the face when he does turn up at Camp Half Blood again. It really was not Riordan's best effort.
schled said: So, did I miss it, or where was Percy's big "sacrifice he couldn't make that Frank would have to help him with"? Surely it wasn't the super brief "I'll come help defeat Gaia!/Nah man, they've gotta do it on their own/Okay" convo? :/
I think the big sacrifice Frank had to help with was keeping Leo's plan secret? But yeah, pretty sure that whole thing at the end was Percy's sacrifice, which, talk about a build up into nothing. It's basically a repeat of what Percy had to do in The Last Olympian by handing Luke the knife instead of killing Kronos himself. Percy is never the actual hero at the end, haha. But Riordan spent a lot of time building the "sacrifice" into something huuuuuge and didn't follow through in the end. A lot of the stuff with the seven was really him just checking off shit he'd foreshadowed in earlier books and not necessarily adding or expanding on new stuff.
Anonymous said: Honestly, although I loved, loved, LOVED Reyna and Nico's POV, I'm disgruntled with how Percy and Annabeth were handled. After nine books of beautiful character arcs and development, we got very little involvement at all. And Percy's characterization was just plain off. Of all the books, this ending seemed the least resolved of all! Rick doesn't do epilogues, but he could have done so much more.
Yeah, I agree with you on this. I probably sound like a super disgruntled shipper, but I think RR dropped the ball with the two of them in this book.
