Hey so what is skam france? And now there's a german one? Am confused but intrigued
Ha, right. I’ll start from the beginning. Skam is a TV show made specifically to cater to teens living in Norway. A show that they can watch and hopefully identify with. The title means ‘Shame’ in English.
It’s told in a unique way where you follow one characters perspective each season and the ‘clips’ that happen to that character throughout the week happen ‘live’. Its all filmed in advance, obviously. But, to be more specific, say for example a character goes to school at 8:15am and something significant happens to them at that time. The show drop a ‘clip’ of that event taking place ‘live’ at 8:15am in Norway. If that character goes to a party and it’s 11:48pm and something significant happens at that time and our character uploads a photo of them and their mates, then that photo is uploaded to their ‘real instagrams/snapchats’ at that specific time in the evening. If the main character has insomnia and something happens to them at 2.33am then the clip will be released at 2.33am in Norway.
It’s so insane and such a unique way of telling a story. And it’s frustrating because we, the audience, have no fucking clue when these clips are going to drop until they do. But if you don’t want to follow it ‘live’ you can always wait until Friday when all the clips are gathered up into one long episode.
Skam France, Druck (German), Skam Italia, Wtfock (Belgium), Skam Espana, Skam NL, Skam Austin, are all remakes of the original Norwegian show.
I hope that helps, and I hope if you are intrigued you start by watching the original show because it’s truly magical.
