That German zombie soldier post, which I made as a throwaway back a few years ago, has exploded over the past couple weeks. During this time, myself and all the other people who added to the post have been compared to Charles Stross, have been lauded on the way we built our fake histories, and fooled countless people into believing it’s all real. I’ve gotten messages praising the post and people saying this blog is their favourite because of it. Credit should first go to my co-mod Xenophone, for making posts that expanded that first silly post into a true mythos, and to everyone who added to that original and helped build this into what it is. Every time I see someone add their contribution to it, I get a surge of pride. I am indescribably happy that so many people feel free to add their ideas, and I urge anyone who feels like it to do so, or even to submit a post to our blog or request a specific post. This is, now more than ever, a community-run enterprise.
Creating stories like these, the work of so many people in different countries– I feel like this is what the Internet is all about.
This is kind of a sappy post, I guess, but on behalf of this blog I wanted to thank you all. keep building, Keep contributing, and never feel shy about adding your own comments to a post. It’s been a ride, alternauts. Let’s not get off.
Xenophone, here - I’ll keep it simple and say aye-aye and huzzah! to everything my co-mod and the original originator of The Alt Historian has put into words. That is to say: “What he said” thrice-over. And remember, re-blogs, expansions and submissions are, as ever, entirely welcome. Regards X
Keep branching those timelines !
