Welcome Home, Sophia
She stood in front of the class, frowning at her tablet a little as she went over the schedule for the day.
"Alright, everyone settled in? Good. So in about fifteen minutes we're going to be having an in-class assembly. The local police are going to come and talk about drug prevention and peer pressure."
A flurry of hands went up, and Sophia called on Kenzie, a sweet girl with waist length red hair and bright blue eyes.
"Sophi, I need to use the restroom. So does everyone else," she looked at her teacher pleadingly. Sophia took a look at her class and punched the top of her nose.
"Alright, mass exodus to the bathrooms. And lockers, I imagine? she asked to several students nodding and the hum of 'uh-huh'. She gave them all a look that said they needed to be quick. And quiet.
"Go, stay quiet so the other teachers don't catch you, and get back here as fast as you can. Ten minutes, everyone. Anyone who comes in late needs to buy the class coffee tomorrow." she added to get a fire under their asses. They all but ran out the door and Sophia had to shake her head.
Coming back to her hometown after being away for college (undergrad, grad school and then specializing in Creative Arts) was a bit of a mental whiplash. It was one she had needed, though, so she had bought the old Miller place on the edge of town and was now settled in her old high school as the head of the Arts and English departments, and teaching Creative Arts.
Less than ten minutes later, everyone was back in their seats.
