.can school drills be traumatic
I saw the school intruder drills post and I remembered one time in seventh grade during one of the drills my friends watch starts going off and someone immediately said to him he was gonna be the reason why we died and I fucking lost my shit cause we’re all just huddled in the corner of a dark room trying to be quiet and his watch just starts beeping like it’s the loudest thing ever at the worst time
LMAO THAT HAPPENED TO US!
yeah we did them and one of my teachers use to be a navy guy or whatever and he’s PREPARED and so he started telling us what to do and this kid dropped a textbook and he was like “James we’re going to die because of you”

School drills are like steak
We stay put
They don't feel so fake
Or we go on foot
They are like steak because I do not like it
they make my stomach feel like a pit
I do not want to be shot
What if someone has a plot?
they make me afraid of a public event
Because I do not want to be spent
Why show if we need to train for tragedies?
Is this really apart of the worldly realities?
Why is it that schools have these random ass evacuation drills, and then care about nothing except the fact that you’re wearing a hoodie?
Like, bitch the school is on fire, yet you want me to freeze to death???
And then they don’t even go after everyone with hoodies
Just two people
Like they woke up and said fuck those two kids in particular
And then you gotta resist the urge to bash their brains out with a tennis racket because that’s assault with a deadly weapon, and you would go to JAIL
God their priorities are so wrong
shhh i'm just talking to myself dw about it
Growing up the only thing I had to worry about was fire drills and tornado drills. Then I hit high school when school shootings was beginning to make a appearance on the news. Now in addition to the fire/tornado drills we practice active shooter drills, we even did a bomb threat drill when some student thought it be fun to leave a false note threatening to blow up the school.
Now that I’m grown and graduated I now see another practice being put in place to help keep kids safe, alongside fire/tornado drills, active shooter/bomb threat drills, we now have the coronavirus precautions.
And here I sit wondering what else will be added to this list before people start questioning if schools are actually safe enough to send kids to-before they question all these drills meant to teach kids what to do in a emergency. Sure Fire and extreme weather makes sense, no one can predict when those will happen, but what of the other drills and precautions?
Today my entire school did a drill where we all learned how to barricade doors in case of an intruder. We were told that students of all ages are learning how to do at least something like this, even elementary school kids. I had an anxiety attack during the drill because it’s a horrifying experience, to watch you classmates shoving tables against the doors and turning off all the lights and spreading out to make it harder for us all to be hit. It’s horrifying to sit in the dark while an administrator attempts to open the door and be told by your teacher that if they were an actual intruder to grab a textbook in case they got in, so you have something to throw at them or hit them with. It’s horrifying that we’re at the point that students have to learn how to barricade themselves in so they don’t get killed at school.
