St. Clare's...😀
Malory Towers, St. Clare's...
I love both Malory and St. Clare's. My favourite characters are Irene (MT) and Claudine (St. Clare's).
Revisiting Trebizon
One of my bigger annoyances with fantasy schools is that you don't have students constantly cramming for exams.
Is this personal bitterness? Yes, but I think it's important to look at the fact that, the older you get, the more school just becomes hell. Like, you don't learn shit because you need to remember all of it for an exam, you've got no passion left for life, and all your worst habits are magnified because you don't have the energy to be a better person anymore. After a point, it's obvious those stories were written by people who haven't been to school in decades, with how "ooh wonder!" everything is. The worst you're going to see In School Context is a bully or a mean teacher. Not the system itself, not the horrible methods used to actually get the knowledge in. It's always a specifically bad teacher for something, not that the staff is either incompetent, or genuinely passionate but without the means to express said passion.
We need to bring back the hell in school fiction.
