Took me literally a decade after graduating high school that the reason I don't remember any of the Chinese language, the class I took for 3 years, is probably because I'm tone-deaf and I literally can't hear the difference between horse and mom. Passed the class only because the teacher liked me, she probably thought I was dumb as shit. I can occasionally understand some written Mandarin. But damn, I really should have taken Spanish or something. Not that Spanish doesn't have tones and inflections, it is probably just a bit easier to make the sounds. Also the Chinese teacher thought dinosaurs weren't real and I was fascinated with learning why so I guess I took her class to understand what was up with that. Turns out she did understand the difference between dinosaurs and dragons, she literally did not believe that fossils were possible. Never could dig deeper than that. Fascinating woman. I hope she's doing well.
