I survived the trip to the castle!
Cold, exposed to the bitter wind (which was to be expected from a Norman castle on top of a hill) and pouring with rain but at least they had an indoor area for some fun activities so we could thaw and dry out a little after touring the keep and walls.
Not having to sit out in the rain while we ate lunch was also a big advantage.
Even though the journey there and back was a bit longer than ideal the kids had fun and Education! happened.
I’m definitely ready to sleep now (even though it’s only 7pm)

Now-ism or just lack of communication, is extremely annoying
Today, one of my sixth graders asked me if I was going on vacation tomorrow. I asked him what he was talking about and I quickly got excited because maybe he meant we had tomorrow off! It turns out that there's a school outing tomorrow. Some of my other students start asking me if I'm coming and of course I'm stunned at this moment because I knew nothing about this school outing! I look at them and tell them that no one told me about it and some of them start to laugh. After class, I headed back to the office and asked "is there a school trip tomorrow?!" One teacher (Mrs. Zhang) says "yes, the school outing. The Spring outing," and another one (Angela is her name) says "I don't know--maybe if the weather is bad, we will not go." I ask Angela where we're going and how no one told me about this trip and she gives me the same answer. Then Mrs. Zhang asks Angela in Mandarin, if I am allowed to go on the trip and Angela replied that she didn't know. I don't understand why this happens.... The whole now-ism ish, I get but just not passing on information and laughing when I say no one told me or ever tells me what's going on, is rather annoying. Seriously?!
