so on the upside, I am doing WAY more coding at this school, and a lot of it is review, but there are also certain development tools that the CS courses here use by default that I haven’t touched (like Git) that I think have honestly improved my coding process and my ability to work on shared coding

but also the downside is that now I’m even more sensitive in spotting the results of bad code structure/design, so half the time I go on the internet I end up fighting the urge to fling unsolicited notes about code optimization to a hundred goddamn strangers

this software class emphasizes the readability of code, but this prof emphasizes it so hard that if  you don’t substitute the actually-standard-everywhere “ i++; “ or “ i+=1; “ for the full “i = i+1;“ then he’ll literally take points off.

I am suffering.

trying not to think about how my finals are on monday, tuesday, and wednesday and that my success might depend on me being able to force myself to study all day, every day, even though I am only just now recovering from accidentally burning myself out super bad with schoolwork

god bless, I forgot this prof has a 24-hour grace period on late assignments where he won’t take points off, then takes 1% off per extra hour late after that for a day or so

so I’m still making progress (!!!!!) but also

is this a blessing or is this me gearing up for a bonus 24-hour round of pain after a week of no sleep,oh god I can’t even pretend to blame anyone else but my own ass for this

I can do a lot when I’m dead-ass sleep deprived, but I think I’m going to start up a new policy where I force myself to take nap breaks when I start unconsciously assigning pronouns and complex interpersonal interactions to variables I’m working with
