You can book online, or feel free to give them a call to see if you can make a day-of reservation. They are famous for their California sparkling wines, but if you also enjoy reds, they have some palate pleasing Cabernets and a deep delicious Malbec that you will fall in love with. For those of you interested in history and the history of Napa Valley specifically, like me, this is a must-visit while you are here. Originally purchased for $200 in 1862 by Jacob Schram, the 200 acre Schramsberg Vineyards was the first hillside vineyard and winery of the Napa Valley, and it has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a ton of history stemming from this property, and thus a plethora of stories that come with your wine tasting, especially if you are lucky enough to have William Butler hosting you. They have the oldest caves in Napa Valley, and the only caves in Napa that were dug solely by hand. Pre and post Covid, your tasting will include a tour of their 38,000 square foot caves which took nearly ten years to dig. Their vast caves can hold an impressive 3.5 million bottles of wine. Currently, they produce approximately 80,000-90,000 cases each year and twenty different wines. In 1965, Cincinnati native couple, Jack and Jamie Davies, purchased the Schramsberg property and revived the forty acres of vineyards to produce some of the best California sparkling wines they are known for today. Fun fact, no other wine has been poured more in the White House then Schramsberg. All set for our virtual vertical tasting with Hugh from @schramsberg of the J. Davies Diamond Mountain Cabernets from over a four year period. We are huge wine lovers, and despite our embarrassingly large collection (although noticeably shrinking these days), don’t get the chance to do verticals too often. No time like a stay-at-home order!
