Cover of the debut issue of the anime magazine Animag, 1987. Cover artwork is by Schulhoff Tam. Scanned from my personal collection.
The second English language anime magazine to be published in the United States, it was founded primarily by Matthew Anacleto, Ann Schubert and Dana Fong who belonged to the fan group Animation of Nippon Inter-Mediary Exchange, or A.N.I.M.E. for short, which had sprung up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid 1980s. The magazine was not connected in any way to Tokuma Shoten's monthly Japanese anime magazine Animage. After publishing 15 issues, Animag ceased publication in 1993.
