After pretty much a week working on this its finally done. Some context to this painting:
During shore leave Kryuss’ teammates usually gather at a friends apartment to relax and unwind before their next assignment. Yelenova, the team’s human member, owns a high rise flat close to the spaceport.
The interior space was inspired by a furniture piece I saw at the JK memorial here in Brasília. With plenty of dark rooms and indirect lighting, I sketched a few furniture ideas which eventually became part of a bigger project.
The idea behind this space is analog to how primitive humans would gather around a fire inside caves. with low lighting in the rest of the apartment, people gather around the warm floorlight lounge for relaxation or casual chatting.
To give this minimalistic apartment (far away from earth) a more humanistic touch I iterated on some cultural patterns. The geometric star on the light floor was based on ancient islamic patterns dating from the 10th century, combined with a few more modern patterns still following the vibe of islamic geometry.
This project also demanded a quick UI study for the control panel beside the door. a development shot can be found a few posts back my blog.
All in all I’m pretty happy with the outcome. I’ll go back to posting faster artworks next week and give more elaborate pieces another go sooner rather than later.
