I don't post a lot about sci-fi but I still want to share this fascinating video highlighting what has been said times and times again, but is visually very striking, the debt sci-fi cinema owns to "Metropolis".

OVERVIEW: "But the real diversion is Pugh’s Princess Irulan, whom [Jacqueline] West describes as the film’s voice of reason. To that end, she wanted to eschew the grand headpieces in favor of a more subtle nod to her Bene Gesserit roots. Irulan is often seen in smaller, metallic headpieces, which West likens to armor. “She’s the moral compass in "Dune Two."

[The Bene Gesserit have] been assigned to control the future and make it go on a certain path. She sees through that and she’s playing the long game,” she says. “She’s seen beyond the manipulations of Bene Gesserit, so I kept her out of that a bit.” Still, she managed to incorporate the nun look into Pugh’s costume.

"I remember when I was a little girl, how the nuns’ habits framed their face. I tried to do that with her, to keep a certain aspect of the Bene Gesserits without giving her the shape, the Virgin Mary-esque mantle," she says. "I thought I could do that best with headdresses.""

Prospect (2018)

Warning Contains Spoilers 

So the other day I watched the 2018 movie Prospect starring Pedro Pascal and Sophie Thatcher. It’s an Indi Sci-Fi short movie revolving around Cee (Thatcher) and Ezra (Pascal) having to work together in order to escape ‘The Green’. A poisonous planet that contains expensive and rare gems that are found within creatures that live under the ground. The movie is visually stunning, which is impressive considering it had a quite low budget. It is also incredibly realistic. The costumes and props are not perfect like you’ll find in most mainstream science fiction movies. They’re dirty, worn, imperfect and that really adds to the realistic feel of the movie. The film is phenomenally cast with a first class performance from each actor.

There is one scene however that really stuck out to me. Ezra has sustained a wound to his arm which has now become severely infected and the arm cannot be saved. Both he and Cee have just escaped from a settlement where the men wanted to buy Cee as their ‘mother’ has died and they need someone to continue their line so to speak. They make Erza and offer and Cee flees, reuniting with Ezra later in a tent where he is a little worse for wear. He asks Cee for her help as he is unable to preform the procedure himself and after asking whether or not he was going to give her to them, he confirmed that he wasn’t going to she agrees to help him.

Now this scene is a tad gory but not so much that it sully’s it. As she preforms the procedure he is talking through it. These few minutes had my stomach twist in knots as you see the rollercoaster of emotions he is feeling come pouring out of him. You see genuine human emotion in Pascal’s performance, so much so that you actually feel like he himself his losing his arm. This to me was one of his most impressive performances. My heart broke for him and his character and you started to see that the cocky exterior was hiding a truly deep, feeling man. 

To conclude. It’s not often that you find a movie that one: appeals to you nerdy side

and two: is so well written, directed and acted that you want to watch it again and again.

Prospect deserves more recognition than it gets but Pascal is getting all the recognition he deserves. He is one of the most talented actors out there and I hope he continues to have a successful career. If you haven’t seen Prospect and still want to after reading this then I definitely recommend it!
