Connections are everywhere.
I'm finally getting to spend some time in Cordova, despite being here for two weeks. This town is so welcoming, people spark up a conversation almost every time I have talked with someone. I was in the grocery store and an employee saw my ducks sweatshirt and got really excited. He grew up in Eugene and was very excited to reminisce about his old home. While at the checkout our cashier started telling us fish stories. She mentioned how the fish season this year isn't as good as pasts. Lots of the salmon being caught are smaller than normal. She noted that the last few winters have been mild and the summers warmer and not as wet. She has fears of climate change making this normal in the years to come. She admits, that it's hard to tell if these will be permanent changes or its just a blip in a longer cycle. But that's why it is important to study climate change, we need the data to help determine what these changes mean. So many people's livelihood in Cordova depends on good salmon runs.
