He was only 16 when he went diving and saw more plastic than fish. Instead of forgetting what he saw, he decided to do something about it.

That teenager was Boyan Slat, who began sketching ideas for a system that could remove plastic from the ocean on a massive scale.

By 2013, he had dropped out of university and founded The Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit built around a bold idea: let ocean currents help collect plastic instead of trying to chase every piece with boats.

Today, the organization is removing plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and using solar-powered Interceptor systems in rivers to stop trash before it ever reaches the sea.

Its ultimate goal is even bigger: remove 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040.

What started with one teenager disturbed by what he saw underwater became a global effort to clean the world’s oceans.

chernobyl costed around 18 billion dollars i think and it spread across to sweden before the government did anything, all because a worker decided to turn off the reactor when they ahd the power out i think, dumbas worker, ANYWAYS the nuclear reactor of chernobyl had fuel chambers that also cooled ti and when it broke down it flash heated them which caused them to turn to steam which ended up cuasing a small fire ij the reactor which casued it to explode, it caused chemicals to combine too and also turned the radiation to like, super powerful and the neutron absorbing water had been replaced with neutron modersting graphite which conducted more radiation and steam , some of the fuel rods fractured causing a faster burning thing and a power spike, it put out 30K MW, more than 10 times its normal operational output

because of alot more complications and even more radiative material being made by the core, the explosion was like 225 tons of TNT, and also i think 5 times that of nuclear bombs at hiroshima

titanic at the time was the largest ship afloat AND ALSO SWAPPED NAMED WITH ITS SISTER SHIP THAT I FORGOT THE NAME OF, also titanic came from the name Titan cuz of how LARGE it was, also came from Titans of greek mythology, titanic was 882 feet 9 inches long and 92 feet 6 inches in width, titanic was supplied with 3 main engines that carried 30K horse power and the output of the steam engine/turbine was 16k horse power, titanics rudder was 78 feet high and 15 feet wide, ALSO icebergs have a bigger bottom than top, so they hit the iceberg earlier than expected, the iceberg had already scrapped the bottom of of the ship, thr part the titanic hit just delivered the final blow, the lifeboats had enough room for 500 people

Over 200,000 barrels of radioactive waste were dumped into the Atlantic ocean.

And many are leaking.

Between the 1950s and 1990s, more than 200,000 steel barrels were plunged into the pitch-black ocean depths under the assumption that they would remain safely contained.

The Nuclear Ocean Dump Site Survey Monitoring

(NODSSUM) project, led by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), is deploying cutting-edge robotic explorers like the autonomous vehicle UlyX and the manned submersible Nautile to locate and assess these forgotten dumping grounds.

The expedition's findings are raising urgent environmental questions.

Operating more than 15,000 feet below the surface, researchers have documented advanced corrosion and physical ruptures in several containers, confirming that the barrels are deteriorating far faster than their designed lifespans. While preliminary radiation levels around the leaking waste remain low enough for safe sample handling, scientists have detected localized radionuclides at higher-than-expected levels.

These discoveries have sparked deep concerns about how this long-hidden radioactive legacy could infiltrate deep-sea food chains and impact fragile marine ecosystems.
