generallemarc has me blocked, so I can’t reblog that thing about JRPGs, but someone should perhaps remind Japanese studios that when you take their polytheism (Shinto) and combine it with humanism (Neoconfucianism—actual Chinese name, “rationalist idealism”), you get State Shinto, an ideology every bit as murderous as Nazism. And hey wouldn’t you know it, Nazism is also a humanist ideology that mixes humanism with ancestral polytheism while rejecting more transcendent religions like Christianity (or Buddhism—Neoconfucians brutally persecute Buddhism).
There's a Polish SF book series Gamedec where the author got obviously hook up on Eastern philosophy. In the third book, before being so hooked up, he set up an antagonist who was an obvious mix of Lex Luthor and the Emperor of Humanity from Warhammer 40k and was going to have a conflict with MC who was still forced to cooperate him against much greater evil of the genocidal cyborgs.
Came the 4th book, MC has no issues with the Emperor dude, the antagonist who replaces him is an ancient banker who wants to rule the world behind the scenes (but is explicitly stated to be from a family that is more ancient than Jews, because the author clearly knew how this was going to be taken), whose evil plan was to bring back democracy because it was making the mankind weak which is what the aliens the banker dude worshiped wanted. There was also an alternate world with a perfect mankind that never knew religion and has developed an Eastern based society that didn't know the word "individual" and focused on their own unity.
Anyway, the Emperor's dude plan to save mankind from cyborgs was to become one with a supercomputer and then spread like a virus among the entire mankind, to be able to guide people more directly. But he was well intentional and didn't want to control them, just do stuff like help them aim better when they were shooting his approved targets.
Anyway, the author was clearly mad at Starship Troopers for comparing communists to bugs. I did my best to contact him to tell him that he was fine with giving a single man an ability to take control of every child's body and be able to masturbate as them. Clearly, the author has proven that Heinlein has insulted bugs with his comparison.
Just the thought that came to me, while we are discussing JRPGs, their Emperor characters, and Easter philosophy.
