What is the Critical Thinking Witch Collective? Our mission is to bring together a community of critical thinking witches and seekers of all varieties – centering the secular, nontheistic, agnostic, atheist, skeptical, and science-minded – to meet, network, commune, collaborate, share, support one another, and learn from each other in kindness, curiosity, and creativity. We strive to foster a safer space where magic and science are respected equally, acknowledging that there can be genuine beauty and meaning in the mysterious.

What is CritWitchCon?

CritWitchCon started in 2021 as a 3 day virtual conference for critical thinking witches held on Zoom with an interactive Discord componet. It consists of panels, talks, workshops, and even opportunities for community and vendor engagement.

I used to struggle with believing that witchcraft was a real thing that could do things for me but then I allowed myself to believe things science hasn’t proven. Science itself says it doesn’t know how everything works. What’s saying there’s not some actual forces at work that we just haven’t been able to quantify yet?

About Me

I thought I'd write an intro post so people can get to know me and I can talk about my own personal beleifs and spiritual connections. I'm currently 19 and I'm from the US. I'm in college studying data and information sciences/business analytics. I've always had an interest in space and astronomy too. I'm also Demisexual and Demiromantic. My pronouns are She/Her

I identify as an Atheistic Cosmic Naturalist. What is that you ask? Basically its a collection of words I use to describe my particular blend of spirituality. First and foremost, I'm an atheist and don't believe in any gods or goddesses. A lot of my spiritual practice has to do with planet/constellation associations, like what crystals are associated with each planet. I also think everything can be explained by science and logic and am typically a skeptic. I do not consider myself pagan, even though I know some of my daily rituals derive from that typically.

I think something important to me is that any craft I do is to have a physical representation/reminder of my intentions. Like when I make a Venus spell jar for self love, it's mainly as a reminder to work on myself and be a bit kinder to myself. I'm moreso skeptical on its ability to "make me love myself", as self love and care takes some legitimate work. When I carry crystals with me in my backpack, they're physical representations of the traits I personally want to embody that day. When I "worship" a planet, it's me directing my focus to an area of my life that is lacking, like communication or self love.

I think some topics that interest me include: Science/psychology based herbalism/crystal usage, planetary magic, and placebo magic. I firmly think magic and psychology go hand in hand.

We aim to bring together a community of Secular, Atheist/Agnostic, Skeptical, and Science (SASS) witches to meet, commune, work together, network, share and learn from each other in a virtual symposium.

This is a safer space where we respect magic and science equally, acknowledging that sometimes there is genuine beauty in the mysterious. This space welcomes, respects, and seeks to empower those who, like witches, are on the fringe and do not have mainstream support including but not limited to ethnic and religious minorities, LGBTQ+, sex workers, those with disabilities, those formerly incarcerated, those struggling with home/food/work insecurity.

Finally and importantly this space is to enjoy each others’ company, engage in riotous fun and laughter with kindness, curiosity, and SASSy creativity.
