There’s a lot of lore that I’m not sure how I want to dole out (in a loredump? fics? comics?), so I’ll limit this explanation to: Prince Night-Mare generally lets the villagers do their own thing (only rarely overriding the council’s decisions), so he has a lot of time to himself to read and, especially, continue the research he started with Dr Gaster studying the properties of the magic apples.

Did you know? The traditional wizard imagery comes from medieval alchemists (aka, the precursor to modern chemistry)! That really distinct set of flasks there? That’s a distillery apparatus!
