If I may direct your attention to hussie's blog and the post 11975241895/about-eoa5-part-4. Specifically the paragraph regarding the Quest Crypt method of ascension and even more specifically this sentence: "Reaching god tier involves using the only life you have left, and dying on that quest bed." Note that it says THE ONLY LIFE YOU HAVE LEFT, regardless of whether that would be the waking or the dream self. He still has his chance, albeit a slim one given recent developments.
That's what he said then, later in the story.
Let's take a look at what he said earlier, after [S] Wake, on Formspring...
Q: How could Aradia have ascended to god-tier status because she had no "extra life", which would have been her dream-self?
A: She did have an extra life. She had a dream self all along. It just wasn't in a tower. It was sleeping in a crypt in the center of Derse, which essentially functioned as her Quest Cocoon.
She is a special case with respect to having a dream self (like Sollux was, who had two), and also with respect to the god tier resurrection.
The same rules couldn't apply to her, since she's the only character who's been dead since long before beginning the game. She couldn't resurrect the usual way because she was already dead.
So she has a different set of rules to suit her unique circumstances. We were lead to believe she didn't have a dream self, because she was dead, and because she didn't have a tower. But she was in the crypt the whole time, on her sacrificial platform, looking pretty corpse-like. Was her dream self dead too? There's no need for a definitive answer. But it would be reasonable to view her slumber as a state of undead-like stasis, like a vampire in a crypt.
Her resurrection demanded that her dream self be killed on the platform. And so it waited there for the entire session until Jack destroyed Derse, and was consumed by fire. This woke her up, and restored her to life for the first time in years. Her robot exploded as her soul un-disembodied itself. She then attained the god tier as the Maid of Time.
After all, why would Andrew outright tell us that, say, it would have to be a dreamself? That would spoil for us that it wouldn't work, wouldn't it? So of course, later, he might phrase it in the general fashion, while leaving out nuanced requirements.
He's done similar things before. Saying something that's technically true, but leaving out certain requirements that prove crucial in-story later.
I'm not asserting that there are extra requirements. I'm saying that we can't rule anything out. Jake could very well come back to life much later, after apparent permanent death, by having his dead dreamself immolated atop his slab.
EDIT: IN FACT, you linked to that without mentioning any of the OTHER context in which he says that!
It turns out, the other way involves another set of quest beds in the core of the moons of Prospit and Derse. Reaching god tier involves using the only life you have left, and dying on that quest bed. Then, rather than waking up as a god tier on the Battlefield, the dead body simply resurrects automatically, transforming then and there. This is the basic outline of the process, with some caveats from examples we’ve observed.

We also can’t be sure that’s all there is to this method. Is it a simple matter of dying on the bed, or is more required? In the only two examples we have of this, Aradia and Dave+Rose, they die spectacularly in an explosion of green fire. Is that among the requirements? This is inconclusive.
Also, god tier Aradia, Dave, and Rose were all unharmed by the fire during the resurrection process. Dave and Rose’s case was so extreme, they actually emerged from the core of a sun. Does the transformation method itself protect them, until complete? Or is it just the simple matter that upon transforming, they are now immortal, and dying in the very explosion leading to their ascension would count as neither just nor heroic? You may speculate.
That's far from a clear statement that Jake will reach godhood just by getting a bullet through the heart, here. There could very well be a 'consumed by fire' requirement, or a 'dreamself' requirement. Who's to say?
Again, not that I'm saying he won't be eventually resurrected! My claim isn't that Jake is somehow dying permanently, forever, for no reason. That would be dumb.

In the whirlwind of recent events and the shuffle of his hurried move out of Clove's house, Gale almost missed the little slip of paper that bore his name on it's surface. He unfolded it to find the now-familiar scrawl of Aaron's handwriting.
Reading the note, a small half smile crossed his features. There was just something about this odd student of science that would forever fascinate him. Aaron had stuck loyally by his side through many of his trials, never failing to step in with a clever solution of ridding Gale of pesky anons and foes. Never asked for anything in return, he was always just there.
The hunter pocketed the note, resolving that he would visit the scientist as soon as he got all of his things out to Twelve.
