"Maybe this wasn't a good idea, after all...""What, ya wanna chicken out now? C'mon, we didn't even explore that much yet.""I know, but I got a bad feeling about this.""Don't tell me ya - o' all people - believe in ghosts?""Of course I don't!""Well, then we have nothin' ta fear, right?""... I suppose so."
A sigh escaped from Hiro's throat as he merely shook his head, his shoulders slumped down in defeat. There it was, his friend's stubborness - sometimes, Hiro just wanted to lie down as soon as Stella was being mulish again. It was one of Stella's bad characteristics and a tedious one to deal with. Hiro was always glad whenever he was successful with his attempts to talk through that thick skull of hers, but this time around, it didn't look like as if it would work. Thus, he was stuck with Stella in an abandoned villa offside from the town, flashlights in their hands as they shone ahead of them in order to see where they were even going. It was already night and this definitely added to the spooky atmosphere.
Spooky, but that was it.
Hiro was a man of science first and foremost, so paranormal things like ghosts were something that he didn't believe in. All of the so-called ghost sightings could be easily explained - something fell to the ground all of the sudden? It was most likely the wind. You hear something strange in a seemingly empty house? Probably some mouses running around in order to get something to eat. Seeing some kind of weird figure for a second? Your eyes could easily play a trick on you.
Either way, he wasn't worried that they would get haunted. The scientist was more worried about the condition of the villa - the floor was grating every single time when they placed their feet on top of it - heck, they even saw a hole in one of the hallways! The rotten wooden floor could give in if any minute, especially if they would move wrong. Hiro couldn't help but voice his concerns out as he sought out support on the nearby walls, squinting his eyes a bit:"We should be careful, Stella. One wrong step and we might regret it."
Stella threw a quick glance over her shoulder and nodded while answering:"Yeah, I know.""I hope so, Stella, because otherwise, Skye will kill me if something ever happens to you", he replied with a frown on his face and the eyepatch-wearer chuckled in response. His frown got only deeper:"Stella.""Sheesh, I know, I know! Loosen up a bit, Hiro, 's not like I plan ta do somethin' stupid here.""Says the one who-", Hiro just wanted to counter, but a sudden thud interrupted him. Both teenagers turned around to the source of the noise, but they didn't see anything - safe for a door that was slightly open. Stella tilted her head at this sight and said:"Wait, was this door open before?""I... didn't really paid attention to it, so I wouldn't know.""Huh, okay. Let's check it out. And before ya say anythin', yes, 'm gonna be careful.""Good to know that you heed my warnings at least."
The blacksmith grinned as she slowly made her way to said door, lingering for a few seconds in front of it before she pushed it open. Entering the room carefully, Stella shone her flashlight around. There wasn't much in there, just a desk, a chair, a nightstand and a drawer, everything in a less than desirable state. As soon as her eyes were fixated on the nightstand, she saw how a broken clock was lying on its front. When Hiro emerged right behind her, she turned her head around and told him about her findings:"'S just was that darn clock, nothin' more.""Ah, I see. It was probably pushed by a rat or something.""Yeah, makes sense. 'S not like as if there is another exit here, so can't be a human.""That's right, I also don't see anything that could hide you away from our view.""Well, let's continue then, shall we?"
Hiro nodded as they left the room after a brief searching. The next hour was "uneventful" - meaning they explained all of the weird happenings away with either the wind, some animals or the poor condition of the house. Well, there was also the sighting of a bloodied woman in white garments, but Hiro was insistent that they were merely wrapped up in the whole spooky situation and thus, were imagining things.
"Isn't it time for us to leave?""Hmmm... yeah, nothin' interestin' here, anyway. Darn, almost disappointin'."The young scientist raised an eyebrow at that and said as they slowly made their way out of the villa:"What did you expect?""Dunno, maybe some kinda funky secret?""Not ghosts?""Oh, screw ya.""Haha, I kid, I kid. I know that you believe as much in ghosts as me.""Meanin' not at all.""Right."
When Stella and Hiro left the house, both of them could almost swear to see a hazy figure in one of the windows flipping a table and cussing colorfully.
