Dam on the Scioto River, Delaware County, Ohio, 1969.

Thought of this dam when the dams in Michigan burst and flooded the city of Midland a couple of weeks ago. The US has a rapidly decaying infrastructure including hundreds (thousands?) of old dams in less than ideal condition. Should this particular dam burst, there would be flooding in Columbus and other places downstream to the Ohio River at Portsmouth.

One week on, the river is melting. As I was there taking these, the river would periodically make noises like something rolling heavily across it, then a cracking noise. I think it's supposed to warm up this week, so more noises, more melting.
