My favorite part of the fragman had to be Serkan asking “which was the better love? Serkan or Deniz?” I love that he is jealous already but at the same time I am like wow, you did not just ask Eda that when you are currently engaged! Super excited for jealous Serkan. And I giggled at how unhappy & uncomfortable he looked when Eda was telling the press how happy she is now with her new relationship. I really do feel bad for his situation but at the same time am glad that Eda already has that effect on him.

Yes, I want to see Serkan drown in his jealousy. (too soon to joke after he was fished out of the ocean with no memory?) BRING IT ON! It’s so telling that Eda has that affect on him, and I can’t wait to see it fully manifest itself and him not really understanding why, (or not wanting to understand why.)

Aja, @echoapothecary just made such a great observation to me about the last episode, and it hadn’t really occurred to me, but it’s soooo true. 

During the breakfast at the retreat, Serkan is already showing signs of jealousy towards Deniz. He’s pushing at him, he’s questioning him, he’s giving them the look... basically doing his jealousy thing. 

However, his actual fiancé’s former fiancé is RIGHT THERE at the breakfast table and he’s completely unbothered by him. He doesn’t poke at Ferit, he doesn’t give him a hard time, doesn’t question him, he doesn’t even really notice him. Serkan’s energy is completely on either Deniz or Eda throughout that scene. 

Selin has told him (her perspective) that he did the fake engagement thing with Eda to get her back from Ferit, but he doesn’t bother pushing that at all to Ferit? No rubbing it in?  And later, Ceren actually makes the accusation that Ferit is still in love with Selin, but Serkan is 100% unbothered, not jealous and actually sits next to Ferit and is nice to him, and tries to help keep the peace. 

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH. That man has never known jealousy when it comes to Selin, he has no romantic emotions tied up in her, but with Eda it is so seeped into his subconscious that he’s jealous of a woman he doesn’t remember and her old friend?

Wake up, Serkan. Your subconscious is trying to tell you who has your heart.

So what do you think will finally be the tipping point for Serkan to start questioning what he has been told about Eda? I would prefer he admit to falling in love with her and kick Selin to the curb even before he gets his memories back but guess we will see. The emotions were super charged (of course) last episode for Eda & Serkan so hopefully they are both able to go into things a little calmer going forward. It sucks to say but I think with Eda backing off on the “we were in love and you need to remember” that he will slowly or maybe quickly start to pick up personality traits that we all know & love and start to remember her. But we all know that Selin will do her best to stop any of that before it starts. I just hope the show does a better job of not using Eda as an emotional punching bag to show us that she is such a kind & loving person. That ending was humiliating for her and even though I know she will pick herself up again, it was still tough to watch. Going to be even tougher for Serkan to forgive himself for doing once he has his memories back.

This right here:  "I would prefer he admit to falling in love with her and kick Selin to the curb even before he gets his memories back."

Yes, that's what I need and what should happen. I can not get past the line, "If I were to live 100 lives, I would fall in love with you 100 times," said right before he went missing and got amnesia. 

To me that line foreshadowed that the entire point of this storyline was for us to see that Serkan would fall in love with her no matter what.  It did not foreshadow that Eda would always be able to break through and make him remember her.  And if that's the story they wanted to do, that Serkan would always remember her, then the line should have been about that. It's not like there's not precedent for that in the show. There have been a couple of episodes with, "I want to remember this moment forever" type moments, so they could have done that again here, setting up that he would never be able to forget her.

THEY DIDN'T DO THAT.

They set up that he would fall in love with her if he was born again, starting from scratch, and that's what's happened with the amnesia.  So if we don't see him fall in love, before he remembers everything, then what was even the point?   As far as when things start to gel for him, I assume that's what the next episode is primarily about. My guess is Selin will be pushing forward as fast as she can. However, we know old Serkan was very commitment-adverse, so I think he's going to be internally freaking out about what he did. So I think we'll see him sort of become disengaged with her. Realizing he made a mistake by acting so rashly, but not admitting it. 

At the same time, I assume we'll see him drawn to Eda, they'll probably have something that forces them to spend time together. Also we see it already in the first fragman. He knew about the lemons. I assume there will be things like that throwing his mind into a whirl and it will all climax with the mounting wedding pressure and he'll be feeling like something isn't right, and hopefully he'll start to recognize his feelings for Eda.

As for Eda being humiliated by Serkan's actions, I think it's more about being hurt. Every person in that room knows her rightful place in Serkan's life. They know how much Serkan loves her, no one but Selin is going to judge her for trying to get through to him with that kiss. It's much more likely that they're shocked at his actions and hopefully that will be the thing that jogs some of them out of their bizarre complacency about what Selin is doing. 

As for your point about Eda being calmer and changing tactics, that's exactly what she needs to do. Imagine the scene at his house last episode, but instead of charging in at an 11 out of 10 and crying and throwing the pictures and breaking the glass, she instead very calmly said, "You went missing on our wedding day, I looked for you every day that you were missing, I dreamt about you every night, I took care of your business and your dog and your life, you at least owe it to me to hear our story from me. And then she proceeds to tell him their story using the photos.  Imagine the results of that versus what happened. 

He probably would have still been resistant, and nothing would happen in the moment, but think of the food for thought he would have had, instead of thinking she's crazy, scary and angry. 

SPOILERS AHEAD (spoilers under the cut, enter at your own risk)

There are spoilers out there that Serkan gets his memories back by next episode and there's a big Edser moment with him kissing her after he remembers, while she's giving a speech.  So are the spoilers wrong? Or does he fall in love with her before he gets his memories back at the end of the episode?  Or is there no consistent storytelling at all and they're just going to forget Serkan falling in love with her 100 times in 100 lives and just go with "poof, problem fixed, his memories are back?"

Also if this storyline wasn't set up to reset things (with Serkan and Eda starting from scratch) and fuel a whole bunch of episodes, then I have no idea what the point was. At first, if this was only going to be a couple episodes of memory loss I wondered what the point of bringing Selin back even was. Plenty to fuel two episodes of story in Serkan losing his memories on his wedding day. Then after this episode I realized it might be so that even when Serkan jettisons Selin in the near future, what happened will be a stumbling block between Edser.  Eda is going to be so hurt, I can imagine she'll need some time before jumping back into a relationship with him. 

So to sum it up, I can't figure out what they're doing. It seemed to me they were trying to set up a do over so we could watch them fall in love a second time as a way to give the series new life, and to fuel a good 10 episodes, but if the spoilers are true, that doesn't seem like what they're doing, so I'm at a loss.

Edser / SCK asks Ep 30 and 31 Fragman

My thoughts on the fragman are complicated. Here’s the thing, this show is my happy place and I want my-- and everyone else who reads what I have to say-- experience to be positive. 

So I’m going to say this once and then not dwell. (This means don’t send me a bunch of negative, venting asks, I won’t answer them) I don’t like the direction they’ve taken. I was fine with amnesia, I was great with him falling in love with her from scratch, and I was a-okay with it happening very slowly, even with lots of obstacles and pain. However, involving Selin, and some rando dude who is apparently secretly in love with Eda for years, at such a heightened level... is making it very difficult to enjoy. What they’ve had to do to numerous characters to make the Selin thing make sense is ridiculous. It’s maddening to watch her manipulate and brainwash a man with a traumatic brain injury and NO ONE recognizes it as such. It’s hard to watch such a brilliant man not be able to see through her even a little. It’s hard to enjoy anything with that going on in the background.  

So with that being said, watching the last two episodes felt a little like getting kicked in the face with a Selin shaped foot. Frankly, this fragman made me feel like we’re going to get kicked in the face a third time. While the spoilers say something is coming for her, there is really no hint in the fragmans that she’s going to get comeuppance in this episode, or even start to. (Poor Bige, good thing she’s not a Hollywood actress because I’m not sure I would ever be willing to watch her in anything again, my reaction to her as Selin is now that visceral). 

HOWEVER, the only reason I watch this show is for Serkan and Eda and to watch Hande and Kerem bring their magic together. That’s it, that’s my happy place. So while the last two episodes were hard to watch-- with the undercurrent of Selin’s crazy behavior not being recognized as such-- both episodes offered up some really great scenes of them together (though it needs to be more, much more) and that’s what I’m going to focus on. So on the BRIGHT side I do think we’re going to get some amazing and even romantic moments between Eda and Serkan in 31. 

It seems certain that the scenes on the boat when they’re alone will give us some really nice moments. The fragman makes it look very fraught and emotional, but hopefully the scenes are long and they get a chance to really talk and connect and there are lighter moments.  We know from the live, that they shot at Eda’s house, and it looks from the fragman there is a scene with them outside. That should be reminiscent of many scenes of old when he would pick her up or drop her off, and I’m hopeful they will do that justice. Then of course jealous Serkan sniffing around Deniz’s cafe will hopefully lighten things up around this joint. 

So... I’m gonna be excited for any and all scenes with Eda and Serkan that don’t also have the human praying mantis along for the ride, and for the rest... I guess I better place an order at the liquor store and stock up on human brain bleach (what do we think? Everclear?) until we can get rid of the barnacle on the ass of this show.

We are on the EXACT same wavelength. Simpatico, my friend.  I thought the same thing when Eda asked him to marry her. Like.... hmmm... maybe this ring has the wrong kind of history to start your life together with? And look CURSED!  

So now I really think it might be best to go with a new one. Surely they can come up with something that has meaning and is not just some giant solitaire diamond, but also symbolizes a new and fresh start.  Maybe that’s what the necklace is about, retiring that ring, but still keeping it as a keepsake of how they met and fell in love?

On the one hand it means he is thinking about her and feels bad/starting to fall for her but on the other hand kind of rude too. I do not see her accepting it to be honest. She gave it back because he got engaged to Selin and they are still engaged. Seems like this next episode will be full of interesting surprises like that.

Yeah, I’m not sure what she will do. I could see it going either way to be honest.  Either she wants to hold onto it because of all it’s meant to them, or she tells him she doesn’t want that reminder of him. 

I do hope you’re right that the episode will have some more surprises... let me amend that... I hope you’re right and the episode will have some more GOOD surprises. I need Serkan to realize that the pull he feels towards Eda, regardless if he’s still hella confused and isn’t ready for anything, is reason enough to rethink his engagement to Selin. Or hell I’ll even take Serkan starting to be suspicious, or starting to see through her act. Throw us a bone, show!  This 1 step forward, 2 steps back thing they’ve started is not a recipe for success.

If they actually had her say those words to him I would cheer.  If Eda can step around her pride and be that nakedly honest with him, it would be a very good thing indeed. 

Switching gears to last episode:

Yes, this. It’s okay for friends to have conflicts. It also doesn’t mean all “girl power” is gone if they do have conflicts.  I’m just sad that it’s happening at a time when Eda needs friends and Fifi already left. 

And like you say, I don’t care that much. I’m here for Eda and Serkan... oh and Serkan and Eda, and that’s it (oh and Sirius, he can stay). So I’m not really invested in any other relationship, friendships or dynamics.

BWAH, I loved that they left early! Writers have gone out of their way to show us they don’t spend the night together. THANK YOU SHOW. One small thing they’ve done right. And to your point they’ve also gone out of their way to show how uninterested Serkan is in all of it. Unlike Selin, we’ve all seen how Serkan Bolat behaves when he’s in love and getting engaged and getting ready to be married. The difference could not be more stark. Too bad that the only two characters who don’t know how he behaves when he’s in love are Serkan and the ass barnacle.

I loved that we got such a quick change from Robot Bolat’s you-won’t-own-these-shares-for-long attitude to you-can’t-go-on-vacation-you’re-needed-here attitude!  One of the best subtle moments from the last episode. I want more of them interacting professionally and him seeing her in action. I also want her to tell him how much she learned from him. I think that might be something he’d be interested to know. 

Speaking of, you know what I want? With his hand tremor, I hope we get a scene where he’s trying to draw something and it’s not coming out like he wants and he’s getting frustrated and she goes over there and puts her hand over his (like he’s done for her so many times) and helps him get the drawing done.

Well... I think putting on that frilly yellow dress and forcing him into a corner with her “engagement” has nothing to do with moving on or forgetting him. That was all for him. That’s her way of fighting for him. She knows what it takes to get him to act. He needs to be in a corner and about to lose her. .  

But also I take your point. I hope that Eda’s natural pride and very understandable hurt doesn’t get in the way as Serkan starts to open up to her and gravitate to her and make moves in her direction. 

As for her talk of moving on last episode, it was premature, but Eda has said similar things many times before, her pride talking, but she never means it. She always fights for him.

I’ve actually already answer an ask about this, but since then, I saw on twitter that some Turkish speakers confirmed that Serkan used the past tense. “I remember the woman I used to love, and that woman is Selin.”

But also, what I said right after the episode still holds. Serkan Bolat didn’t even know what love was until he met Eda Yildiz. He didn’t really believe in it, no matter what justifications he’s using now. When Serkan and Selin were together, Serkan probably though that boring milquetoast arrangement was what people meant when they talked about love. It wasn’t until he met Eda that he realized he’d never been in love.  

I predict he’s going to have the same realization one more time in the not so distant future.

Melo is the only smart one and good friend who is telling Eda to fight for their love. I’ll give Ferit some credit too as he is throwing some digs in at Selin as well. I am not entirely sure but I feel like there is something more there based on the looks they shared when they met as if they knew each other before.

Oh interesting! I don’t know how that could have been arranged from the start, so I don’t think they know each other from before, but at this point I’m not putting anything past either to start working together to keep Edser apart. 

And yes, Melo is really the only non-Edser character I don’t want to slap upside the head. Ferit is better that most, but could still try harder. Oh Seyfi. He hasn’t given me reason to want to slap him upside the head either. 

As for Deniz, I’m already done with him.

Edser / Sen Cal Kapimi ep 30+ asks

@jan31 Hi Liza, in the fragman Selin was in a white dress, was it a wedding dress?

Hello! I don’t think so. I think that’s what she was going to wear to the dinner she’d planned for the four of them (from the fragman, Eda, Serkan, Deniz and herself) but BOOM goes the MELO. Thank you Melo, lock that witch away so Serkan and Eda are not haunted by her evil presence, and can maybe spend some time together. 

Though, you know, I wouldn’t mind if it was a wedding dress. We know Serkan ain’t gonna marry her, so if they go so far as to put her in a dress, then we’re on the precipice of her humiliation and departure which can’t come too soon for me. 

jan31 Hi Liza. Please can you explain to me the fireside scene. It was so beautiful, emotional and just what we needed. Were the lights going out representing his sub conscious and the darkness he feels, reaching out for Eda instinctively without realising why. And the lights coming on was the reality that he did not remember anything. Or am I completely going in the wrong direction? Oh and the music gets me every time 😢😢

That scene fired on all cylinders!! I definitely think you’re on to something thinking the lights coming on represented the reality of him still not having any memories back. I think the whole scene was Serkan trying to reconcile this one flash of memory that has been playing in his mind like a movie. He was re-enacting what he saw in his mind, trying to figure out if it was a real memory and if the real memory was about Eda.   

I really liked that it was Serkan who asked if they can talk without arguing. Being the calm, rational one is his role in their relationship, how many times have we heard him say “sakin” so it was comforting to see him taking those reigns for a few moments. Also for him to realize that almost all their exchanges had been heightened and fraught with explosive emotions and wanting to talk to her without that. 

Both Eda and Serkan with their eyes filled, brimming with tears really got to me. Serkan not really understanding as his heart took over and tried to make sense of what his confused mind couldn’t. Eda’s complete heartbreak when he still didn’t remember anything. However, though, she might not know it, he certainly felt something.

He’s already so drawn to her and he can’t compute why that is... why he fell in love with her during the time he can’t remember, but he’s slowly starting to see how it could have happened. This was an important scene for bridging that gap between them. So freaking beautiful, one of the best acted scenes of the entire series, and the scene that made this episode worthwhile.

Hande and Kerem were both absolutely fantastic in that scene. Really stellar. Their chemistry never disappoints, but here they were both right in the moment, very raw, very real. I’m impressed with the emotional range they both showed, kudos to both. If nothing else this story is giving them a lot to chew on as actors.

Well they made huge strides in two episodes. From Serkan not willing to even contemplate remembering her, to him sitting down and asking her to tell him a memory of their relationship and saying he wants to know about her and their love. And them having an absolutely beautiful, emotional, heartbreaking moment together. 

Serkan made other leaps as well. He went from wanting Eda out of the business to admitting she had talent and freaking out that she was planning to take a vacation. He was already coming up with every excuse to keep her in town and working. They argued as they did in early days, he had moments that obviously hit him as familiar (”I hate you Serkan Bolat.” “The feeling is mutual, lady.”) plus lemons and crusts. 

Don’t you worry, he’s already falling in love with her again. 

However, I wouldn’t judge what they’re planning too much by this episode. It felt like a transition episode and was pretty unevenly paced. Perhaps the claims of rewrites on this chapter had some truth to them. Because the last 4 episodes were pretty well written, narratively solid, and well paced, and this one was not. It was boring and everything not directly related to a scene where Eda and Serkan were alone was lackluster. 

Also I feel like some things were changed and perhaps removed to make allowances for Hande’s injury. She had a strained neck and was in a brace for almost the entirety of the filming of this episode. For instance, I’m pretty sure they did fewer takes with her in several scenes. Specifically you can tell in the scene where Serkan picks her up and carries her back.

We go no full wide angle shot from the front of him carrying her to match with the scene in episode 5. I’m sure they wanted that, but I’m guessing they really had to limit the takes of him picking her up so they couldn’t do multiple camera set ups.  The still photographer on set was able to capture it from the front, it’s a shame they couldn’t get the full hero shot for the show, but poor thing was injured and these things happen when you shoot on such tight timelines. 

So some of the lack of Edser could have been scenes that were shortened, cut, and amended due to that injury. And others could have been changes in the script perhaps as they figure out if they’re getting another ep order from Fox.

I guess my opinion would be unpopular with you, but I am not as enamored with Deniz as others seem to be.  Dude was putting a LOT of pressure on Eda to move on and forget Serkan. Serkan has been back approximately 3 days! HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD AND HAS AMNESIA. Can the woman have a chance to catch her breath and assess the situation, before her “good friend” is pressuring her every which way to forget him??  And planning romantic getaways under the guise of friendship? That’s not being a friend, that’s being an opportunist, looking for his chance to slide in there. 

So, yeah, I’m not as impressed as most seem to be with Deniz. He made me uncomfortable with that. I hope it was not a harbinger of things to come. 

As for OTH, I haven't really watched, but its a fav or my bud @echoapothecary so she might be willing to discuss that show.

Let’s do it, baby! I’m on board They both are genuinely good people, and I’m with you, I don’t care about any of the side romances at the moment. Piril and Engin put me to sleep this episode. 

Ferit certainly deserves better than psycho Selin, but he also deserves better than petulant Ceren. And while her behavior escalated to WTF levels this ep, she’s always leaned a little this way. I think it was episode 18 (because the girls were in the library before Serkan finds Eda there) that Ceren was furious at Ferit all episode and I honest to goodness had no clue why or what he did.

No this show has always been about the love story between Eda and Serkan, but it did have some nice female relationships as well. Can I tell you a secret? While I really like the girls dynamic, and hope they don’t destroy Ceren and Eda’s friendship, I really only care about 2 characters, and that’s Eda and Serkan.

So while I get your concern, and Ceren acted OUT OF HER DAMN MIND this episode, if she needs to be a casualty to keep things moving, so be it.  I mean I reserve the right to roll my eyes over it, but I’m not going to get too worked up about it. From the beginning Eda and Serkan were the only two characters that matter and they still are.

I think you have to just give over to the timeline on this show and not do any math or calculations. We already had July to December take approximately 2 months in straight linear storytelling, LMAO.  

Also, if it is valentine’s day and that’s going to be their excuse to give us some actual romance, then I will take it, no complaints. To me that’s one of the easiest things not to be concerned about, because its never going to make sense. I’ll take the holiday themed episodes over strict adherence to the calendar any day.

I know we're focused on EdSer, but what's up with the Ceren/Ferit/Deniz thing? Because there was definitely something with her in regards to Deniz in the last episode and they have been showing Ceren/Ferit taking steps back and forth for a while now. And now it looks like she's going to be jealous of Eda? Why are the writers doing this??

Why are the writer’s doing this? Why not? To tell a story. To have some conflict. I personally don’t care about Ferit/Ceren (other than they made nice couple friends for Edser) so why not have some drama there and have Ceren have feelings for Deniz?

I think it sounds interesting to have a bit of a triangle that doesn’t include Edser. Spice things up. Also I think it’s okay for the girls to have conflict once in awhile. Eda may not be taking Deniz’s feelings into consideration when it comes to whatever plan she’s hatched to make Serkan jealous. (Though I think he’s a big boy and can take care of himself) so it’s okay to remind her. And Ceren may be headed for a soul searching moment when she comes to terms with why it bothers her so much. All fine by me.
