The sense of urgency Carol felt after she received a message that the Collector had managed to procure himself a specimen from Earth was through the damn roof. Her contact had been vague, but they had said super-soldier and possible Avenger. Both which gave Captain Marvel cause to panic. The last thing she needed was to explain why Captain America was in space and how he got there.
On that note though, there were dozens of questions that needed answering. Most prominent of which was how the Collector’s goons had managed to subdue Rogers and lock him in one of those creepy display cases. She imagined it had to be reinforced or he had to be somehow dosed. Maybe both, because as strong as those cases were, underestimating his strength would be a mistake.
Also why had the Collector gone for him? He was a slimy being, Carol never cared much for dealing with him, but he wasn’t someone to go so brazenly for a world’s hero. Or maybe he was, but he’d always presented himself as atleast clever. There was nothing particularly clever about bold-face kidnapping a super-soldier.
The answer became obvious, when she’d snuck her way into the cargo-bay and approached the case. It wasn’t so much a case as she expected, as a metallic pod. Carol frowned. There were tubes running from the sides into a large canister on the back, and next to it, what looked like a small control panel. It had two buttons, one that was red and lit, and the other a dull green.
Carol glanced over her shoulder, before she pressed the green switch. It lit up instantly and gas hissed out of ports that had revealed themselves. Armoured panels fell away, revealing the familiar display case that the Collector was so fond of.
Which was not Steve Rogers.
Captain Marvel hesitated. Not that she had any issue with rescuing someone from the Collector’s grasp, but…
“Uh,” she managed, brows furrowing as she regarded the stranger. No, certainly not Rogers. Not enough red, white, and blue. But he did look familiar, vaguely. As if she’d seen him somewhere before, but she couldn’t place him. “You’re not… who are you?”
