@scnshinewrites | michael ‘mikey’ + nevaeh
Being a military brat meant never settling down, but Michael was happy to return back to the town that first felt like home. It was probably because he had stayed in North Carolina the longest, but he knew deep down it was more than that. After four years at college, he was finally returning as a glorious baseball star, getting the recognition all those basketball players took from him in high school. It shouldn’t have been a surprise that any great time would start with Brooke, who had texted him the name of a local bar to go to. Their house parties had slowly upgraded as he got ready to see his friends. He’d kept touch with some, lost touch with most. Between training, school, and partying, there wasn’t much time to text his high school friends. Instead, it was mostly liking each other’s pictures on social media.
Arriving a little bit early, he greeted his friends. It was bittersweet, to see he had missed so much, but also Mikey was glad he hadn’t returned because he wasn’t sure he would have been able to leave it all behind every single fall.
He had been catching up with one of the guys when he felt a shift in the room. She would have probably never thought so, but as he turned around and caught a glimpse of Nevaeh, he had to turn his body fully around to see her. Despite their time apart and everything that had happened between them, he couldn’t help but soften his features. Turning his body fully around to face her, he let the dorky grin take over his face as he couldn’t look away from her. “Wow,” he muttered quietly to himself.
