Sitting on the floor beside Chelsea, he looked up atthe tree and then to the empty boxes of decorations scattered around them. “Foronce… I think I have to agree with you.” He nodded, making it sound like itpained him to agree with her. Mostly just because that’s how they worked.Teasing comments instead of genuine ones, or at the very least that’s how heacted around her. “I’ve got it! What if, instead of just going out and buyingmore decorations we have… Kidmas. Make our own decorations, like we did when wewere kids. It’d make our tree unique, and that way, we can make as many or aslittle as we need to make the tree look less bare. Unless of course… You’rescared that your ornaments won’t look as good as mine.” He challenged, knowingone of the best ways to get Chelsea to agree to something, was by turning itinto a competition.

“Why is there a reindeer on my front lawn?”

“Uh…  Okay, sohere’s the thing. I was going to keep the decorations low-key like we agreed.Then Mr Edwards next door, said that the decorations were as boring as we are,and that he was going to outshine us. Obviously, I couldn’t let him away withthat.” He explained, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Therewas just something about the person who lived beside him, that annoyed James,mostly the way the older male always looked down on him and Chelsea. Granted,James wasn’t too bothered about people looking down on him, but Chelsea haddone amazing things with her, and part of him wanted to punch anyone who triedto put her down. Not that he’d ever actually tell her that. “So I went out andbought a few more decorations, and then there was this guy that let people hirereindeer… And I thought that would make us win any competitions. I named himChet, by the way. Like the reindeer in the second Santa Clause movie. There’s aguide on how to look after him on the fridge, if you want to check it.”

Looking over at Violet, Joey tried to hold back alaugh, though the massive grin on his face wasn’t quite helping. “You realize,that if one of us was going to spike to something, it’d probably be you?” Heasked, with a small smirk. Pausing, he looked back over at her curiously,trying to take in her demeanour. “Wait… Were you asking because you wantalcohol free eggnog? Or because if it wasn’t spiked, you were going to do ityourself? Because the more I think about it, the more the second option soundslike you. And you might as well have spiked eggnog here. I think I’d judge youa lot less, than your parents would.”

“Okay, come here. I’ll hug it all better.” He joked,wrapping his arms around her – fully expecting her to protest. It wasn’t as ifhe would do something she was completely uncomfortable with, but if he could atleast get her to laugh, it may take her mind off things. “You know, if it makesyou feel any better, I saw some people purposely try to fall on the ice earlier– just so they could break something and be sent to hospital. That way, theycould get an extension on sitting their final. Wasn’t why you did it, was it?Because if it wasn’t… I’d just tell people that it was. Seems cooler when saythat. And I might not be able to look cool, cause I scream dork, so one of usneeds to keep up their cool reputation.”
