i want you, open wide / can’t you tell me all your secrets / i’ll tell you all mine ;; aside from being a favourite song to blast at parties, it just sorta fits her vibe. think of it as an accompaniment song to her. nothing too sentimental.

we’re bursting at the seams / just think if we get lucky / and things are looking pretty great / walking backwards through hollywood factory ;; reminds her of the early days of the hex girls when they had bright eyes and fresh faces with dreams too big for this small town. makes her miss it too.

cry for me baby / i’m not your baby / i only hurt the ones i love ;; she has a habit of unintentionally hurting those she’s close with ( re: bora, noah, a lot of people lol ) as a result of her somewhat self-centred way of thinking and her lack of faith in most people. in the end, she can only really trust herself.

visions of a life / wolf alice

i’ll get my coat / i’ll be the bitch / i heard that journey’s end in lovers meeting / but my journey ends when my heart stops beating ;; look, it’s an eight minute song, but boy does it resonate with her. from her past up til now, she’s going to continue deviating from the path set out for her even if that means eventually having to leave people behind, even if they still have some ownership over her heart.

all the more i know / the less i feel right / i’m high and i’m low, no control / but everything’s looking peach now / so i don’t need it all when it feels like gold ;; something that makes her feel a tad optimistic about everything, almost waving off her need for control and her volatile emotions.

oh my god, like i’m your number one fan / so iconic, like big, like stan, like / i would give my life just to hold your hand ;; aside from being a song about talking back to the negative thoughts in her head, it’s also kinda relevant to the gossip placing said bad thoughts in her head. so like, fuck them.

can’t stop me now / allie x

i’ve spent too long in this ghost town / sometimes i wanna leave, i wanna get out / i can’t stop now ;; another song about deviating from the path, specifically heading towards realising her solo ambitions outside of crystal cove to places with better opportunities. still, it’s a hard dilemma she isn’t ready to face now.

take me as i am / rina sawayama

guess it’s what it takes to live in my own way / so the world will take me as i am ;; again, breaking free from her family, their expectations and their control over her autonomy. also the frustration directed towards echo. music is her weapon here. diss track coming soon, mayhaps ?

get it, say it, i’m your type / i know you been all this time / so get it right / to get around me / gimme, gimme, what i want, what i deserve ;; she’s unapologetic about most things, but more about getting what she deserves. it’s a confident, hard-hitting track that just about sums up the li yifei everyone knows.

     re: noah’s keen ability (read: bad habit) to always find the bad in every situation and wants to avoid any and all conflict.

    "who's that woman on your arm? all dressed up to do you harm, and i'm hip to what she'll do give her just about a month or two."

     re: he knows that he and yifei don’t make sense in the grand scheme of things, and they can both do a lot of damage to the other . . . but damn, no one ever told him bad decisions would be this much fun.

trauma.

    “the wounds come back to life, i try to avoid them but get hurt every time. my heart gets hurt, yeah i know, it can’t just be me."

     re: the past he tries to escape, but never can. between false memories of his father flooding his mind, to the distinct possibility that he’s wasting away his life, he can’t escape.

tomorrow, today.

    "again today, there are questions i don’t know. i’m trying to answer but i’m not confident. is it this way or that way? i’m afraid of my decision."

     re: his continual journey to find the answers to all of life’s questions. it’s why he’s so passionate about journalism, because he knows that someone else has to be asking the same questions he is.

    "two drifters off to see the world, there's such a crazy world to see. we're all chasin' after all the same, chasing after our rainbow's end."

     re: he knows that bora is basically the best thing to ever happen to him. he’s so lucky to be able to call her his best friend and, despite the fact that they are the unlikeliest of friends, noah knows that’s how it was always meant to be.

    "i never should have told you. i never should have let you see inside. don't want it troubling in your mind; won't you let it be?"

     re: he really needs to kick that habit of speaking before he thinks, because he cannot keep secrets for too long and it’s going to kill him someday.

     re: it’s the karaoke song of the karaoke songs. it slaps and noah knows big rob’s rap by heart.

little star.   

    "twinkle, twinkle little star, how i wonder where you are. wish i may, wish i might, make this wish come true tonight."

     re: it might be silly to keep holding onto his dreams, but someone has to, right? he wants to do right by those he loves and he wants the entire town to know that both the mystery inc. kids and the hex girls are filled with good people.

i wish it would rain.

     re: he’s just got a lot of emotions and he likes to put this song on when he’s in his feelings about anything and everything.

i’m a hex girl, and i’m gonna put a spell on you! ft. hex girls : their debut song; the one they wrote in between lessons and after school, the one that jump started them into music, before the rumours and notoriety and fame.

ii. sit next to me foster the people

just come over here and sit next to me / and i'll take you high, high ft. fei : probably what was playing while they were high and figuring things out, one thing leading to another, and anytime she calls, she knows he’ll come over.

iii. guy.exe superfruit

wish I could synthesize / a picture perfect guy ft. noah : one of her favourite karaoke songs with noah, singing it out at the top of their lungs on road trips and while doing house chores! best friend, perfect guy, that’s the same thing! ( right? )

iv. carried away h.e.r

i never saw it coming / you wanna take me away / so please / don't let it be for nothing before we get carried away, yeah ft. fei : she started this and now she’s getting carried away, doesn’t know why or how this is spiraling out of control but neither of them have a handle on what’s going on or what the other person is feeling, and she’s starting to have trouble seeing what’s real and what’s pretend.

v. no more suckers marina

no more suckers in my life / all the drama gets them high / i'm just trying to draw the line ft. yifei : the both of them, trying to deal with fame and the tabloids and the rumours, but who needs all that when they’ve got each other?

vi. goodbye my friends fixh

goodbye ft. noah & yifei : her closest friends, finding something better in each other and leaving her behind. that’s okay.

PART A ( muse playlist )

i. porcelain skott

give it a thought, it takes a lot / to trust that someone else will catch my fall she feels like she’s constantly searching and reaching out for someone and finding no one, letting herself fall and trying to trust that she won’t break like porcelain.

ii. number one tove styrke

everybody loves a number one! it’s what she wants, to be the final one, number one, and she’s chased her dreams this far, so surely... she’ll be number one soon?

iii. liability lorde

you're a little much for me / you're a liability / you're a little much for me the one line she’s heard a little too much, because she’s always a little too much, too insecure and trying too hard and sometimes too much is not enough.

iv. i’ll still have me cyn

i broke my back 'cause / i thought you would too / i'd run in circles / i thought you would too every relationship she’s been in, every friendship, she’s overexerted herself into exhaustion, trying to hold everything together all by herself because the other person might not try and she doesn’t have the strength to let that happen. but now she’s learning, to have herself and be content with that.

v. to noise making (sing) hozier

you put your emptiness to melody / your awful heart to song / you don’t have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong / at best, you find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along the reason she started making music: she loved it, and it felt freeing. this is her singing in the shower, around the house, on long drives, to herself, the small reprieves she takes to remind herself of the little blessings she has.

vi. daydreamer aurora

when we should be daydreamers / and moonwalkers and dream talkers this is who she wants to be, the daydreamer, the one chasing her dreams with nothing holding her back anymore, leaving behind all the baggage she’s wrestled with. it’s easier said than done, but she’s on her way there!
