The Safety Dance

okay I know I'm a terrible secret santa and I should've posted this already but my family just wouldn't let me be and they wanted to spend all their time with me lol :)

anyways, this is a little one shot I did as a present to my gal pal scoobydoobydee :) this was my first attempt at fic writing so don't be hard on me please (also English is not my native language) and I hope this makes you happy Tommy and all of you that stumble upon this and read it :) happy holidays people :)

''I told you Swan. I'm a survivor.''

He gently pressed his forehead to hers, savouring the moment, savouring her, tucked in his arms, her kiss, her touch. He thought he broke the promise he made to her. He thought the Dark One would finish what he started centuries ago and finally end his life. But he didn't care so much that his life would end as much as he was concerned to what it would do to her. She told him that she lost everyone that she ever cared about and that she can't lose him as well and he would be damned if he let that happen to her again, to break her heart and leave her all alone again.

She looked up and bit her lip as her eyes searched his face filled with love and relief that he's safe and that he's here.

''I know you've told me before that you're good at surviving but I don't think proving that point by getting into trouble with Gold was really necessary. How the hell did you even get under his control ?''

His face formed a troubled look as he was thinking of how to explain his ordeal with the crocodile to her. As she was looking at him a memory of their date crossed her mind and she remembered how Gold gave him his hand back. She didn't notice that at first because she wouldn't care if he had three legs and two heads. She cared for him for the man that he was and not for how many limbs he had or didn't have. She remembered how the next day at the station his hook was back in place and how he brushed it off quickly when she asked about what happened to his hand. And in that moment she was absolutely sure that him briefly getting his hand back was the reason he got into this whole thing with Gold.

''You made some kind of deal with him for your hand .''

It was more of a statement than a question.

''Aye'', he replied, once more amazed with her ability to see right through him.

All of a sudden they heard voices and a number of people entering Granny's. Apparently, the dwarves have decided that the defeat of the Snow Queen should be rightfully celebrated. The two of them were in the back hallway, just where the rooms were located.

''I wish to explain everything to you, but it seems as though the dwarves have decide to have a celebration in the diner so I would suggest that we move this conversation to somewhere a bit more private and quiet.''

She agreed and followed him down the hall to his room. He took the key out of his pocket and unlocked the door. She stepped in and he followed, closing the door behind them. She looked around the room. She was never here before but it wasn't much different from the room she was in when she first arrived in Storybrooke. It was small but cozy. The bed was in the center of the room and above it was a window with pale green curtains. To the left was a vanity with a big round mirror and the big wooden closet was in the far corner of the room. On the right side of the room there was a small door that led to the bathroom and that was it. She sat on the edge of the bed and turned to him and locked her eyes with his. She could see that he was struggling with how to begin to explain this whole thing with Rumple.

''Hey it's fine. Don't worry about it. I understand that he was controling you and that there wasn't much you could do about it. I just want to know how and why it started cause you were in danger and I just wanna know if there was something I could do to prevent all this.''

He sighed and in a few short steps he got to the bed and sat next to her. He took her hand in his and started talking about how he found out about the fake dagger and how he used that to get his hand back. He told her about the hat, the apprentice, how the Crocodile took his heart and how he made him put the fairies into the hat. She remained silent and just listened until he was finished. When he stopped talking he looked into her eyes, searching them and trying to find out how she feels and what she's thinking. She gently squeezed his hand and started to speak.

''Look, I know you probably expect me to be mad at you and I think I expected that from myself as well but I'm just not. I'm actually more sad that you thought I care about whether you have a hook or a hand, that is absolutely of no importance to me. I care about you for who you are and I can't understand why you think so low of yourself. You have changed so much and you have grown so much. This deal you made with Gold and the things he forced you to do don't change that. I just wish you would have talked to me right away when all this started, maybe a lot of things that happened could've been avoided if you did.''

He was watching her the whole time she spoke completely in awe of her. He was not sure what he did to deserve to have someone like her. He didn't think it was possible for him to love her more than he already did but after all that she said he did love her even more than before. He wasn't sure what to say or do next. He just sat on the bed watching her roam around the room. She walked to the vanity where she noticed an old radio-slash-cassette player and next to it was a small cardboard box filled with cassettes with mostly 80s music on them. She hasn't seen one of these things since she was a kid. Killian was still sitting on the bed silently watching her movements. She dug through the box with tapes and found a Christmas songs compilation on one of them and smiled to herself. The holidays were just around the corner and she thought it would be nice to hear some cheerful holiday tunes. She took the tape and put it into the player, closed the lid and pushed the play button. The room echoed with the first few chords to Wham's 'Last Christmas'. She felt like she could relate too much to that song but quickly dismissed the painful memories. She turned to Killian still sitting on the edge of the bed.

''Ah, I was wondering what that strange device is used for. If I'm not wrong it appears to be some sort of music box.''

He finally spoke and his lips lifted into a small smile. He stood up and walked over to where she was standing.

She looked up into his sea blue eyes and returned his smile.

''Would you do me the honour of dancing with me, love ? '', he said, closing the distance between them by wrapping his arms around her waist and putting his hook through one of her belt loops.

''I'd love to'', she whispered, putting her arms around his neck and tangling her fingers in his hair.

They started slowly swaying to the music and it made her think of their time travelling adventure and their dance at the ball. This dance, however, was far less elaborate and far more private and as much as she enjoyed their dance at the ball she loved this one even more because they were alone in their own little bubble away from everyone and the hectic, fairytale character filled world that was Storybrooke. She burried her face in his neck and inhaled his rum and sea scented skin.

''What a strange song Swan. What is this Christmas this man is singing about ?''

She couldn't help but laugh at him.

''It's a holiday celebrated in this world around this time of the year.''

The song faded and ended and 'White Christmas' started playing. They continued to sway slowly round the room and she noticed the snow starting again through the window.

He gently moved his fingers up and down her spine and she pressed a kiss to his neck.

They danced like this for minutes… or was it hours? She lost track of time.

After a while he broke the silence.

''Swan?'' he gently called her name and she looked up at him.

''I love you'', he whispered his confession, his emotions mirrored in his smile and in his eyes.

''I know'', she grinned and gently pressed her lips to his.
