#ScopeStars, an ensemble of highly talented performers, has established themselves as the thing to watch on Periscope.
What is Periscope? Did I hear you correctly? Periscope, a social media app, allows anyone with a smart phone to broadcast live video from almost anywhere. Anyone with the Periscope app on their smart phone can not only view the broadcast, they can also make comments. These comments appear on the screen for all to see.
Granted, a traditional ensemble is a group of musicians, actors, or dancers who perform together. The individual #ScopeStars, whilst they are not physically in the same place, do perform together in the same show. A good way of looking at the show would be to acquaint what #ScopeStars is to the classic variety show, a theatrical entertainment consisting of successive unrelated acts, such as songs, dances, and comedy skits. The main difference between #ScopeStars and variety shows such as The Royal Variety Performance is that the former is broadcast to a viewing public via a 21st century medium.
#ScopeStars employ Periscope to reach a wider audience than that which they would normally engage with. By using the social media tool in the same way other performers might use YouTube, the #ScopeStars are not only able to have immediate two-way-engagement with their fans, they are also able to receive immediate feedback. Louise touched upon this point in her first tweet.
One of the organisers of #ScopeStars is Jon Jacques. Jacques, a magician based in New York City, is a Periscope sensation with no fewer than 31 million hearts and 64 thousand followers.
There is a video clip, accessible via EllenTube, of Jacques performing magic. Jacques is performing a trick where he turns five one dollar bills into five one hundred dollar bills.
Of course, #ScopeStars is not about promoting any one particular person. As mentioned, #ScopeStars is essentially an ensemble of performers, highly talented at what they do.
In addition to Jacques, the talent involved in #ScopeStars thus far include Ike Fontaine, Kerri Elimeleck and Jessica Louise.
Relatively speaking, each performer that appears on #ScopeStars is an organiser of the show, a link in the chain to the next performer. Each performer is genuinely supportive of the entire ensemble.
Fontaine, a self-professed water junkie, has an incredible ability to produce great sounding music.
When asked via Twitter about his getting started with #ScopeStars, Fontaine tweeted, “Stumbling into the right people on Periscope. Network. Network!”
Fontaine is of course correct in what he is intimating. Networking is an important aspect of the entertainment industry. Periscope, whilst it might be good for broadcasting cats doing the cutest things, is as good for this business which we call show.
With an extremely charming personality, Elimeleck, a vocalist, pianist, songwriter and voice coach, is also known as @PassTheBananas on Twitter.
Louise, based in Long Beach, CA, is a singer songwriter and actress. When asked via Twitter what it was that inspired her to use social media as a medium for broadcasting entertainment, Louise tweeted, “Hi. Great question. I’ve been using Periscope a lot as a medium because it gives me direct and immediate feedback from fans.” I can see what Louise is saying. It is a valid point she has made.
People in the entertainment industry appreciate it when fans want to provide feedback. In using social media to entertain her fans, Louise is able to get feedback from her fans quicker than that which she would see via more traditional means. Social media such as the one being employed here is an effective in cutting down the time it takes for that feedback to arrive at its desired destination.
Louise also tweeted that, “fans that I would have otherwise never come across if it wasn’t for social media since they’re from all over the world.” This is certainly a good aspect of using social media.
Jacques, Fontaine, Elimeleck and Louise are clearly extraordinarily talented at what they do. Each of the talents involved in #ScopeStars is looking to make names for themselves in the entertainment industry. With such abilities as these four have, there is no reason they cannot reach for and actually touch the stars.
There is no doubt Jacques, Fontaine, Elimeleck and Louise will most likely find that their desire for stardom is within their reach.
Plenty of Scope for Stardom #ScopeStars, an ensemble of highly talented performers, has established themselves as the thing to watch on Periscope.
