The Modest Media Review Guide line. How I plan to review games.
While judging a game, I will follow this basic guideline to keep my review organized and easy to follow. To keep things simple I will use a x/10 ranking system for each category, and then tally up all of it to give a final score.
Gameplay – The most important part of a game should be how it plays. I will be reviewing the controls, how easy it is to learn how to play, the difficulty curve and general length of the game.
Graphics – I will be judging the graphics based off when the game came out, so keep in mind that games that looked great 20 years ago might look like a potato now. This os to remain fair to the overall score of the game.
Story – I will judge the story and lore of the game, do note that older games don’t have much of a story and that some modern games keep the story vague and hidden from the player. If I feel that story does not effect the overall game as a whole, then this portion will not be graded. For example, I WOULD rank the Elder Scrolls Skyrim’s story, but not the original Mario Bro’s story.
Replay ability – This is to notion if the game is worth going back to once you have first completed it. Whether it be for a second playthrough, to challenge the post-game or to strive for 100% completion.
Music – If the game has a soundtrack, I will be reviewing said soundtrack as well and I will be rating it based on how much of it I found appealing. This is more of an opinion.
Final judgment – I will give my personal experience and opinion on the game, tally up the score and give it one final explanation. At a bear minimum the maximum score will be 30 is a game does not have story or a soundtrack, and at maximum the score will be 50. One positive, One Negative – No matter how good or bad a game is, in the end I will try to list one thing the game did good and one thing the game should improve on.
