Whooo, one heck of a commission down!!
Tessik, a very traditional Trandoshan shaman and hunter, performing a ritual summoning of the Scorekeeper. I had this idea that she might appear to her followers literally scored with tiny tallymarks of their kills so I decided to go with it.
Me: “I don’t know why I’m always so tired.”
Me at 3am:
I’m score-catching my first roller derby tomorrow afternoon. It’s a scrimmage so they won’t kill me if I make a mistake...or six? 😧
Slightly nervous, though. What should I do? 😨
How Do I Become Better At... Scorekeeping (SK)
Watch roller derby on YouTube. Literally, any bouts filmed on the WFTDA channel or an independent channel like layer9 are super if you need to improve your scorekeeping abilities.
Print some scorekeeping sheets, record the numbers of the jammers, and follow the action. Once you get the hang on things, try scorekeeping both jammers at the same time. That skill comes in handy when the computer operating the scoreboard crashes, and the tournament game you’re recording is three minutes away from starting and it takes fifteen minutes to reboot the computer!
