Edwin’s Journal: July 10th, 192X

This new gardener...Don...is exactly what Dina said. He’s handsome and muscled and even has the start of a moustache growing in...I can’t grow a moustache at all, no matter how hard I try. She hangs around him all the time, and he seems to like the attention. 

Do I have feelings for Dina? Is that why this is so hard to witness? I know I’m not handsome and I’m not muscular and I don’t have a moustache...but I have money. I can give her a luxurious life...

Edwin’s Journal: February 4th, 192X

Father says it’s time that I go off and study at a real school, instead of having tutors at the house. They’re sending me away very soon. I don’t want to go! I like my room and my tutors and my friends here. When I went out to the gardens to be alone, Dina found me there and I told her I was leaving. She says she’s really going to miss me, and I’m going to miss her too.

Edwin’s Journal: June 1st, 192X

We took the girls out dancing. Well - I didn’t really want to dance, and neither did Katarina. So we just watched the others, and talked a bit. I offered to walk her back to the girl’s school when it got late. While we were walking, she kissed me out of nowhere...I’m still a bit surprised by it, even as I write this.

Edwin’s Journal: May 24th, 192X

All the boys have got themselves girlfriends now - except for me. Now they always spend their weekends off with their girls, and I’m left all alone...

Miss Astle is in a similar situation. She’d rather be spending the time with her friends, but as they’re off doing whatever couples do with my friends, she always sticks around by me. She’s not awful but we don’t really have much to talk about, except griping over our shared abandonment.

Dear Mother and Father, 

Mr. Hamilton is a very good teacher. I try my hardest to pay attention in classes. But when we’re dismissed for the day, me and the other boys go out to play in the snow. There’s so much snow in Britechester! I love to join in the snowball fights, even though I get knocked down more often than the others.

Edwin’s Journal: July 5th, 192X

On my first night back I heard shouting from somewhere in the house. I knew it wasn’t Mother or Father...we aren’t a shouting household. I followed the voices and found two members of the staff fighting in the kitchen. Imagine my surprise when I recognized them - it was Dina and Nina, my old friends!
