Alumni Alicia McCarthy and Scott Trattner discuss their individual paths since SFAI—McCarthy as a working artist (most recently awarded a 2017 SFMOMA SECA Award), and Trattner as executive creative director for Apple (creating iconic ads like "I’m a Mac, I’m a PC”) and currently for Facebook.
The following conversation took place at Facebook Headquarters on November 4, 2016.
Alicia McCarthy has a BFA in Painting from SFAI (1994) and a MFA from the University of California, Berkeley (2007). A founding member of the Mission School, she has exhibited internationally and has received numerous awards, including the Artadia Award for San Francisco in 2013 and the 2016 SFMOMA SECA Art Award. McCarthy is Visiting Faculty at SFAI.
Scott Trattner received his BFA in Painting from SFAI (1997) and a MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2000). From 2004 to 2013, he was Executive Creative Director at Apple's TBWA\Media Arts Lab. Trattner is currently VP, Executive Creative Director at Facebook.
