Honey (2020) - Samia

Samia’s sophomore album shows how much she has grown since her childhood in The Baby (2020).

Not kidding, I have gone through spurts of listening to Kill Her Freak Out for days on end. To this day, I still cannot listen to it just once in a row. Something about the religious organs and delirium threaded through the lyrics of the title track draws me into a place I cannot get out of.

Samia’s lyrics feel as though she has opened her cranium up with a can opener and spilled the contents out onto a journal page. Her lyrics are riddled with intrusive thoughts. However, she always makes up for her overthinking with the carefree, summertime vibes on songs like "Honey" and "Amelia".

At times, it felt as though her chanting and cyclical lyrics lulled me into a near trance and it is always wrapped in the hug of warm production. Samia knows that her lyrics do not need to be overproduced, which leaves many of her songs feeling like you can sing them with your friends beside the fire.
