You laid there in the hospital bed, coughing every now and then, then gasping for breath.
No friends...
No family...
No one in your life...
You felt a few shivers down your spine as you waited for death to take you. That's when suddenly a man appeared next to you, his head hanging low, almost so he could hide his face from you. You looked at him, your vision blurred slightly. He looked up but you still couldn't exactly see his face. He was sitting perfectly adjacent to you. He reached into his left jacket pocket and pulled out a small pack of cigarettes. He took out a small stick and offered it to you, you took it and let the strange man light it for you as he took one out for himself to smoke.
You took a long drag of the cancer stick and made a content sighed. You always feared dying alone and just when you thought you were, he was here. You didn't know who he was, maybe an angel, maybe a demon, maybe it was the grim reaper coming to take you to the after-life. Whoever he was, you felt like you could trust him. You then felt his hand on yours, you're common stiff body relaxed under his touch, almost as if he was telling you that 'when you're ready to go, you can go'.
You took another long drag of the cigarette and sighed, you never wanted to leave the earth. But you really didn't have much of a choice, you were dying and for some odd reason, this strange man, made dying almost bearable. You closed your eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath. You looked at the man and smiled softly, taking the cigarette out of your mouth and sigh.
"Thank you..." You whisper, he gave you a curt nod, but didn't speak a single word to you. You coughed one last time before finally letting your heart stop beating, a small smile plastered on your face as you died. Happy not to die alone. The man vanished and some doctors walked in, seeing your dead frame and heading over to call it and do a report.
