Some more progress with the hills I'm making; construction now done, it's on to "painting". Starting off with a spray primer of black after hitting all the scattered rocks and cusscuss with brushed on Matt acrylic varnish. This is then lightly dry brushed with white acrylic ink. The ink is more transparent and packs a whole lot of pigment compared to most craft paints. So I only used a small amount, about 4-5 drops, applied with a large flat make up brush to build up some smoothish gradient values of light and shadows. Zenithal highlighting both pieces.

Next up will be hitting both with various coloured inks for hues that will keep those values whilst giving some much needed colour!

#356 The Mask of Caatma

Acrylic and gesso on cardboard and plastic, 11/24/25

For my final exam in my film class we're supposed to make a short film, and my group is working on one about a cult that worships a cat god named Caatma, named after Raatma from V/H/S 94. I wrote the script and handled costume management and this is the mask we'll be using. For my first time making anything like this I'm pretty happy with it. I went for a biblically accurate angel/seraphim-inspired design, and originally the stitches weren't a part of the design but as I tried to figure out a way to attach multiple children's animal masks from michael's together I figured sewing them would make for a strong hold and now it has a bit of a Frankenstein's monster quality.

The teeth are made from recycled plastic packaging and the ears are made from recycled cardboard boxes. Trash bashing is something I'm relatively new to but I did have an embarrassing amount of microwave meal boxes that were either going to go into the recycling or a craft project anyway.

These corroded nasty looking sci-fi industrial terrain bits are the 3d supports for a completely different piece of terrain, based on a peanut butter jar lids, with some wire, zip ties, hero click clix base, hair tie, and some random bits on top. They've been assembled and primed for about a year, but I slapped some paint on it this weekend.

Obnoxiously, I realized far too late that I forgot to under coat the second one in the metallic primer before doing the green.... Ah well, it's good enough.
