Exciting news for me this morning. My short script "How It Starts" was named a quarter finalist in the Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition.

ScreenCraft Short Screenplay Submission

I have turned in one of my short scripts to ScreenCraft’s short screenplay contest a little while ago since I haven’t submitted anything since the Atlanta Film Festival screenplay competition last year. It feels great to turn a story into a competition. I mean, if you win or lose, you’re a winner no matter what because you decided to write a script and hand it over to a contest. One of the last things you want in your consciousness (as a writer) is regret  for not submitting your work to anything. Yikes. lol

Submitting to my first screenplay competition

To be honest with you, I was freaking nervous about submitting a screenplay to my first screenplay competition ever. I wanted to submit so bad yet I wanted to enter because it could be a big highlight. Either way, the submission is the highlight. I'm still taking a step forward and not holding back. 

I've recently submitted to the Atlanta Film Festival Screenplay Competition and I feel great I have done it. 

I've submitted plays in the past with no problem but it's like, "Oh snap!" when it comes to screenplays. 

What's next for me? Well, what else: keep writing. I'm changing my life in the right direction one script at a time. ^_^

Placing in a well respected screenwriting contest can bring your writing to the attention of the industry. Here’s my round-up of the best film and television writing contests in the UK and US.

Script Angel is a fantastic resource, and one you should really take advantage of.

Last October I won a screenwriting competition that I found through her blog, and I am still ridiculously grateful to her.

Make sure your screenplay is as good as possible before entering - there's no need to rush. These competitions run year after year and you want to give yourself the best chance possible. Don't enter without getting as much feedback as possible from those around you, and don't forget to check for simple things like typos.

Basically, make sure it really is the best it can be before you start forking out the cash for the submission fees!
