SUERTE (Pt.1)
A/N: I don’t know how to give up, hahaha. This is my second attempt with this one, I really see potential in this. 💪
They wrote so many silly things: from awful memes that somehow they found a little bit funny to deep messages where even if Joe is busy as hell, Y/N finds comfort in each other's words.
“Still laughing?” Bella, Y/N's older sister asked their mother, picking up all the stuff from the Saturday lunch.
“I start to believe her cheeks are made of some type of plastic.” Their mother added. “I mean at this point at least she must have cramps.”
Bella smirks before tossing a napkin to Y/N who barely moves from the chair.
“A little bit of help would be fantastic.”
Y/N giggles, putting her phone away as picked up the empty glasses. “Sorry, I was distracted.”
“Lately, it is a common thing.” Her father added, pushing her softly, making her blush taking the glasses to the kitchen.
Every time the first absurd encounter replays in her mind, a warm comfort overwhelms her; in this case her number doesn’t get lost and forgotten, a common thing that used to happen, instead a couple of days later, a message from Joe distracts her from her work.
What happened early in the off seasons developed until this point; talks, meetings and milkshakes within one week left for the pre game.
Between training, rehabs and games, Joe can barely believe that someone so…enchanting clumsy has that power on him.
If he dares to be ridiculous and cheesy for more than one second he starts to believe that even if it doesn't have an official, “us”; the little world they created day by day goes bigger even with a little text.
~
Ja’Marr has that face that can easily make someone laugh; side eyes, a peculiar smile on his face as observer Joe with a towel around his waist, socks, no shirt, typing in his phone as he giggles.
He found about her the first day of rookie camp, Joe was rushed to get out of the building as soon as he can, putting all in his bag as he walks out of the locker room bumping with Trey, Tee and BJ, however 3 big guys is not even that avoid the distract from his goal, reaching the parking lot as soon as possible.
What scene he found when Joe has completely wrapped a girl while she fights for her life holding a cup with clearly vanilla milkshake that is spilling a few drops at the side of it.
Ja’Marr clears his throat making Joe stop squeezing the poor girl, still not moving his arm from her shoulders as she sighs feeling relieved that just a few drops are on the ground.
That day Ja’Marr finally met the girl that kept his best friend on another planet so close to earth but at the same time so far avoided someone disturbed them.
°
“Wait, wait, a minute.” Zack stops Joe on his way to the field. “What are you doing?”
“Trying to go warm up.” Joe narrowed his eyes.
The scene for Ja’Marr is only getting better.
“You’re not playing.” Zack checks his notes, yeah, Joe is out for the preseason games.
“It's just one game Zack, nothing to worry about.” Joe tries to walk one more time.
Zack denies with his head. “No, you’re not in the list, you’re not playing.”
“Co…” Joe tries to argue one more time.
“Next game Joe, and just for a quarter.” Zack added walking out of the locker room.
Ja’Marr approaches Joe who has a pout in his lips, removing his gloves.
“Let me guess, a particular girl is coming to the game.”
Joe laughs, a long time friendship can easily read your mind.
“That obvious?” Joe sees Ja’Marr; today they will wait and watch from the bench.
“NO.” He exaggerates his words. “Not all, random guests, I guess you have bad luck today.”
Joe scoff, rolling his eyes, who will say the word luck will turn into his biggest ally and his stubborn enemy.
Y/N doesn't believe in destiny also believes lucky is a word that is used in moments where things go out of control, true or not; Joe wants to believe the destiny and a hit of good luck allows him to meet her.
>I'M HERE!
Her message lit his screen, today lucky is that enemy.
~
All in the benches and around them have that suspicious face; their QB has been constantly turning around to the crowd making them scream his name, cheerful words and other particular things, replied with his normal cool facade.
Plays passes, defense and offense switch places and he turns back again, looking out.
“That mad?” Tee asked Ja’Marr who is finished to congratulate the young WR, who just scored one more time.
“Isn’t his lucky day, that’s all.”
~
Bob patted her back after the game. Bengals won, entertaining game and fantastic crowd, however she has to settle with quick takes of Joe on the field in his coach mode.
“Maybe I mix the days.” Y/N mumbles, scoffing with a smile. “Whatever, it is nice to see him in another facet.”
Bob laughs, walking out of the stadium, she won’t call it how he would do.
“We can wait, I don’t mind.”
Bob has been her best friend since high school; as her, his biggest knowledge about the game was the fuss that appeared after a team won and the super bowl show, besides that they were walking in blind eyes. But when a late night in the middle of dinner together Y/N let it out who met a couple of days ago and the early messages she received that morning, things changed.
“No, it’s ok, he will have a few meetings before leaving." Y/N smile a little bit. “I will see him tomorrow and he will drive me to work.”
“So this is real?” Bob suggested raising his eyebrows.
Y/N shakes her heart. “Come on Bob, this is temporary. Let’s be honest, how high is my chance of a handsome and talented man like such a random girl as me?”
“It is a bad habit thinking so low of you.” Bob waits for a car coming out letting him walk to her car.
“I’m not, I'm brilliant but my love life couldn't tell the same.” Y/N chuckles. “I’m not sad or anything at all, I’m having fun, I think he’s having fun, all is working so, yeah, I'm not having high hopes, just realistic ones.”
°
Realistic or not, the truth is her heart races when moments like this happen.
>Sleeping already?”
Joe texted her that night.
>No, watching T.V
>Nice, I’m not interrupting your sleep.
>What?
Her reply came with a soft knock on her door.
“No you don’t.” She whispered practically running to open the door.
“Probably I made a mistake, but… donuts filled with chocolate and hot milk, right?”
The moment she opens the door Joe is there with a box of donuts and two cups, telling her special combo.
“Is my way to apologize. I never imagined I would need a special request to play in my team.” Joe takes a deep breath. “Sorry if you only see me for a few seconds on a screen instead of the field.”
Y/N giggles, feeling flutter. “You don’t have to apologize, I had a curious time learning from the old man next to me who keeps teaching us basic things.”
Y/N take a step aside, letting the way free.
“Oh no please, I just passed by to give you this, it's late and you’re working tomorrow.” Joe gave her the donuts.
Y/N hums. “Is a half dozen donuts, Joe you’re crazy if you think I'll eat even one of those alone. You’re here, I don’t mind, please.”
Joe doubts. “Wait, are you telling me you're planning to dump me, TWICE?”
“No!” Joe rushed himself, he just fell for her tricks.
“Good, now please come in, I swear it won’t take us more than 20 minutes.”
20 minutes that turn into midnight when this time, she reluctantly let him go, the donuts were forgotten and the milk cold, only the pillow of her living room tossing around, the empty glasses of water and the jacket Joe forgotten, is the reminder that night they just have a fantastic night of talk, jokes and shared silences.
And this way is how their life developed all those months, with ease because none of them dare to put a name to what is already happening between them.
°
“Please, tell me your secret.” Carol, her teammate complained, sitting in the chair next to her, it is shooting day and they are making the last adjustment before it begins.
“What do you mean?” Y/N asked, checking for one last time the papers were perfectly impressed.
Carol chuckles “Look at you! You’re shining, smiling and with a I bet, is natural redness in your cheeks.”
Y/N laughs, shaking her head. “6 hours of sleep, breakfast and drinking water.”
Carol scoffs, but somehow Y/N words put one thought in her mind.
“Did you have sex?”
Y/N choked when sips the little candy mint that was in mouth, calling the attention of all around them, but she barely said, “I’m fine.” before coughing again, until I take a deep breath as Carol pat her back.
“One level high and I’m terrified all around the room could hear you!” Y/N take the bottle of water.
Carol laughs. “Sorry, but hey! You said the words. I put it together.” She raised her shoulder. “Water, breakfast and sleep. In my mind just hear, I had the best sex in my life.”
“NO!” Suddenly the thought of Joe and her having… Makes her shy. “For Christ sake, I used as all do, in the literal way!”
“Hey! I heard the rumors about a cute guy dropping you from time to time, my mind works faster.” Carol added, as Y/N stands, walking with the files.
“He’s my friend!” Y/N had her cheek red as big apples. “Omg, I need air or this talk will turn into you telling me what position I did it."
“SO YOU DID?!” Carol stands screaming as Y/N walks out the black room, with eyes fowling at her. “Thanks! I forgot to bring it!”
Carol completes her phrase, raising a random object, deceiving the attention from the people.
°
Ja’ Marr looks at Joe with a pout as he tries on the jacket bought for him.
“Too much?” Joe asked the moment he saw his face.
“No, I like it, it's just, I see something else.” Ja’Marr walks around him; clothes perfectly selected, he’s healthy, but something is new on him. “You know it's kind of not allowed to have sex during game week?”
Joe's eyes widened. “What the hell are you talking about?” He giggles, removing the jacket.
“Oh come on bro! I know that sparkling eyes and the skin glowing.” Chase takes a step back. “Omg, your skin is glowing!”
“I didn’t… Why did I even answer this?" Joe walks to his kitchen, shaking his head.
“I mean you don't have to but, hey you look happier than…”
“SHUT UP!”
None of them have it but last night, the connection between them became stronger and deeper.
